Mine is "I forgot!" - (or, worse, "I forgot, all right?") said in a slightly accusing tone, said as if it should be a perfectly acceptable excuse and complete explanation for anything done, not done, damaged or left behind.

Son: I don't want to talk about it

Me: what did you have lunch?

Son: Mummmmeeeee you always ask me that I just want to eat my snack in silence. I need some peace & quiet.

Oh forgive for attempting to show some interest......

severmefingers · 16/10/2008 15:41

Q; Are you getting up?
A; of course im getting up. What does it look like im doing, the tango. etc. etc.

Mumwhensdinnerready · 16/10/2008 15:45

Wherever I am in the house they yell muuuuumand I am expected to stop what I'm doing and go to find out what they want.
No matter how many times I rant and say "don't yell for me when I'm not in the room, come and find me" they still do it.
I ignore them and they just yell louder.

pollmeister · 16/10/2008 15:55

My wee girl (2 last week) has started to say F*! indiscrimintly yesterady (I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA where she got it from...)
Should I just ignore it and hope it goes away? I am living in fear she will start shouting it in John Lewis.

GrimmaTheNome · 16/10/2008 16:09

'Am I bovvered?'
I don't know where the heck she's picked that one up from!

'What's the time?'
...when there's a large clock on the wall and she's perfectly capable of reading it.

May I offer a solution to the perennial 'I can't find ...' thing? It is to calmly reply, 'go and look again; if you really can't find it I will come and help but if I find it easily I WILL BE VERY CROSS' (substitute the last bit as apt to achieve desired level of motivation)

Also to 'I'm bored' - brightly retort 'Good! I keep hearing that its good for kids to get bored, makes them use their imaginations.'. (obviously don't try this on v young DC but quite effective on an older one.

sparklesandnowinefor8days · 16/10/2008 16:22

Its not what they say

its when they 'roll their eyes' at me that makes

musicposy · 16/10/2008 16:34

Both DDs complaining that I love the other one better, so it's a constant "it's not fair!"

grrr!

On a variation of the same theme, DD1(12) was annoying DD2(9) mercilessly yesterday, grabbing stuff off her, laughing, teasing her. Finally at the end of my tether, I said, "just go upstairs out of my way for a while!"

To which she flounces off with all the attitude of a 12 year old. "There's SO much favouritism in this house!" she shouts as she slams her door.

Huh?

S1ur · 16/10/2008 16:36

"......but I wanted it the first time"

cue mucho hair tearing and hunting for time machines on my part.

MascaraOHara · 16/10/2008 16:37

"you never do anything for me"/"you don't love me"

make me want to scream in her face (but I don't)

hez011 · 16/10/2008 17:42

"chill out mother" makes me want to lock my 13 D in the freezer!

pookie81 · 16/10/2008 18:07

My 2 year old DD says "No way" if she doesn't want to do something or if I try and put a nappy on her!!

Kids these days eh

pagwatch · 16/10/2008 18:14

I especially hate

DS1 :I have a letter that you have to fill in and it has to go back today. Its really urgent.
Pag :When did you get it?
DS1 : yesterday
Pag :when?
DS1 :About two weeks ago. And I need a packed lunch. And I need a cheque. And a kagoul.

For some reason "kagoul" is the tipping point....

PandasMummy · 16/10/2008 18:31

"Can't like it" said By Ds2 to ANYTHING new.

WinkyWinkola · 16/10/2008 19:05

My DS (aged 3) shouts, "KILL! KILL! KILL!" at his little sister when she ruins one of his games.

I'm horrified but I've tried to tell him not to say such horrible words and now I'm ignoring it.

needtoask · 16/10/2008 19:12

I say to DD tidy your room, bring down your laundry, find your house keys, get out of your school uniform, wash the dishes and I always get the reply "In a minute"
argggghhhhhh

KeirRoyale · 16/10/2008 19:20

I'm just ...ing (insert anything he'd rather do than whatever I've just asked him to do)

I also find "And?" (said as if he were saying "So?") rather difficult to take.

Mamamoor · 16/10/2008 20:20
