cos if they do I want to know your secret. probably like most parents I use a mix of the stick and carrot - which in our case usually comprises removing or adding beads to a pot, with beads adding up to treats. (ie the mn pasta jar but with beads) All well and good and it is pretty much guaranteed to get results. But I am fed up of it!!!!! I really cannot get dds to do anything without issuing a threat or a bribe and it's driving me up the wall. I really don;t want to have to count to 10 and take away or add beads for every single little thing. Has anyone found a less specific way of rewarding good behaviour which actually keeps them on their toes all (or at least most) of the time, as opposed to one where they only actually prick their ears up and do as they're told when they hear the word bead/pasta/star/sticker?

Yes I think that seems reasonable Peachy and workable.

Chelt - I'm glad you've had a better day - yousound as if you are more comfortable and no wher you're going with this one now - keep on at the school to keep you in the loop Smile.

AggiePanther · 02/03/2006 21:12

I think peachyclair covered it ..yes parents should reinforce but not be responsible for discipline to do with school probs. Glad things are getting sorted Cheltenhamgal...Keep us informed:)

cheltenhamgal · 03/03/2006 06:32

morning, i must admit it seems to be me doing all the work, and of course DD the school don't seem to be doing much or what they have done hasn't worked. I just hope things carry on improving as I really don't want to go through what I went through last week. enjoy your day everyone :)

PeachyClair · 03/03/2006 17:44

How was the visit with the teacher, Cheltenhamgal?

cheltenhamgal · 03/03/2006 19:06

thanks for asking peachyclair, before I went to see the teacher I was told that she had had a yellow card(for calling another child "big fat bossy boots") but the teacher wasn't worried as if that was all that had happened after the week we had last week then it was still an improvement. I think dd still deserves a treat this weekend. I am not sure if I agree with my dd's school's way of disciplining as I think they give these cards out willie nillie, maybe that could be a topic for another thread :) I was quite pleased all in all

AggiePanther · 03/03/2006 19:57

Awww bless her...mean teacher :( since when is 'big fat bossy boots' yellow card behaviour? OK its not brilliant but IMO kids are constantly calling each other names and you can never tell who starts it ..or what goes on when your not looking. Sounds a bit like your dd has got herself a reputation now and whenever she staps even a tiny bit out of line they'll have a go at her ...I bet they wouldn't yellow card every kid for name calling ...or am I wrong?

AggiePanther · 03/03/2006 19:58

meant to say ..you're right to be pleased if thats all theyve got to moan about

cheltenhamgal · 03/03/2006 20:35

sorry I had gone to watch Corrie and eastenders, it was the head dinner lady who gave it to her and of course you are right cos the other girl was bossing her about. I just took it with a pinch of salt and the teacher was still really pleased with her. Also aggiepanther her teacher did say that they would have to be careful not to automatically blame her in a dispute so I shall keep an eye out for that so it looks like we are off to see Chicken Little tomorrow :)

PeachyClair · 03/03/2006 21:03

Sounds quite restrained really!

Big Grin for you, I bet you are leased, and a big for her for being such a good girl

(NB: a child at school today told my son 'I wish you wre dead' but they didn't even think that worth raising!!!)

cheltenhamgal · 03/03/2006 21:08

see now if that had been my dd she would have been the one that was overheard (shocked) cant do the shocked faces how do you get the sqaure brackets round the work ?

cheltenhamgal · 03/03/2006 21:09

word even and thats without any wine :)

AggiePanther · 04/03/2006 09:38

Cheltenhamgal ..glad to hear things are a bit better :) the square brackets on my keyboard are above the @ and ~ keys ..onthe right of the return key.

mandymoomoo · 04/03/2006 10:01

thanks Aggie compared to last week I feel on cloud nine, so I shall keep my fingers crossed.

AggiePanther · 04/03/2006 10:37

Ambassador you are confusing me with these name changes :)

bigbaubleeyes · 04/03/2006 20:46

Enjoy chicken little!! Smile

A yellow card for name calling does seem quite harsh IMO.

cheltenhamgal · 05/03/2006 15:49

just thought I would let you all know, my dd appointment with the community paedatrician has come through for 15 March. I didn't think it would come through so quickly so fingers crossed that we can get to the bottom of the attention/anger thing with my dd

PeachyClair · 05/03/2006 20:26

Hey that's great, maybe I should move that side of the valley, took 9 months for ds1's to come through!!!

What a great week hey- you really have moved forwards and you should be incredibly proud of yourself.

cheltenhamgal · 05/03/2006 20:39

thanks peachyclair I was gobsmacked when I got the letter and luckily I have the day off that day from work so fingers crossed. Thanks for all your advice

cheltenhamgal · 05/03/2006 20:40

peachyclair , meant to add hope everything is ok with you and how old is ds1

PeachyClair · 05/03/2006 20:46

Yep everything OK here, ds1 is 6 and has AS or HFA, he was dx but they wouldn't carry a dx from Somerset to Gwent.

Also have ds2 5 and ds3 2.5, complete mebagerie but fun too.

cheltenhamgal · 05/03/2006 21:21

cor and I thought I had my handsful with one ! :) I bet you never stop. I always wondered how my mum had four :)

AggiePanther · 06/03/2006 11:07

Thats good news cheltenhamgal - let us know how you get on won't you :)

cheltenhamgal · 06/03/2006 19:38

I sure will aggie, and thanks to everyone who has listened to me drone on. :)
