mrsbadger you're winding us all up! surely...?

spongebrainbigpants · 04/03/2010 15:41

PMSL at Pinky Gorgeous - you're joking?

RubiMama · 04/03/2010 15:41

Ok, ok, I know I was asking for it with that thread title
I don't mean sought after as in everyone will want it, I meant loads of people seem to be looking for a good girls name that isn't too popular, but meets the plain but pretty and simple citeria, oh you know what I mean!

I've never head it as a boy's name, a family friend has a grown up DD called Bay and I always liked it. I think Fay is weak and awful, but Bay is growing on me.

Rose would have the greek half of our family saying, "Roz" with a rolled r - not good. Was considering Rosa though.

Pinky Gorgeous is wonderful. There is a Lambrini in a primary school near us (she must have been born at around the time of Footballers' Wives and the Chardonnay character...).

Bay makes me think of leaves and the noise hounds make, I'm afraid...although it is quite pretty.

MrsBadger · 04/03/2010 15:44

nope, absolutely not joking, unfortunately

Bonsoir · 04/03/2010 15:44

LOL at Pinky Gorgeous

My DD tells us that the baby that is in her tummy (!) is going to be called Princesse Rose. But DD is only 5...

aquavit · 04/03/2010 15:44

Rosa is lovely.

PortBlacksand · 04/03/2010 15:45

Ruth
Maud

Good solid pretty names.

ilovepiccolina · 04/03/2010 15:46

I quite like Bay. Flower/plant names are fine. It's stylish.

Bonsoir · 04/03/2010 15:46

I know a little nearly 2 year old called Faye. It's growing on me.

Bonsoir · 04/03/2010 15:47

Baies roses are a sort of pink peppercorn.

justallovertheplace · 04/03/2010 15:47

No no no no no
Windows and Pigs is all that spring to mind

RubiMama · 04/03/2010 15:51

I know of a boy born recently who has been blessed with the name Buster . And I also taught a boy once called called Red - his parents favouite colour. He had a little brother called Seven - their favourite film. I kid you not.
I'm not trying to be ridiculous o attention seeking, I like Bay. I think Bay tree, rahter than leaf. But know you've put m of with the Alsopp (sp?)association....

THANK YOU Piccolina! I think it's stylish too. In fact I 'm sure there's a fashion designer called Bay something or other, who always gets mentioned in Vogue.

Not imo. In my book, the "sought after rare yet simple and pretty girls' name" is recognisable to most people as a name. Sure, Bay is a simple word, but I can imagine a bit of confusion over it when introducing herself - Faye? May? 'Oh God, it says "Bay" here - is that a boy or a girl, do you think?'

belgo · 04/03/2010 15:58

Fay is a lot nicer.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 04/03/2010 15:58

Every time there is one of these "I have found the perfect name" threads, it is always ridiculous...

RubiMama · 04/03/2010 15:59

Fay is flimsy. Bay is cool.

ilovepiccolina · 04/03/2010 16:24

Yes, Fay is a little... fey

The thing is that people get used to names very quickly when they get to know someone. So use the one you like! And it wouldn't occur to me that Bay could be a boy.

Pofacedagain · 04/03/2010 16:26

How about Yab? Makes about as much sense.

AllieW · 04/03/2010 16:31

Sorry, I think of loading Bay. If she were, um, not exactly svelte, then that might end up her nickname.

SpicedGerkin · 04/03/2010 16:32

sash
double
glazing

or

bazil
tarragon
all spice (my particular fav)

Sorry OP i dun like it.

mackerel · 04/03/2010 16:35

Reminds me of the song "the camptown races' - I bet my money on the bobtailed nag, somebody bet on the bay".

expatinscotland · 04/03/2010 16:37

horse.

tree.

naff.

RubiMama · 04/03/2010 16:47

Okay, Okay...I'm beginning to wish I hadn't started this now. Had been sitting on the name for ages thinking shall I send it for examination to the MN jury or no. Curiosity got the better of me

ilovepiccolina I agree that people get used to names when they know people. I know a Bay so I always just thought it was a nice name.
