if you and your partner LOVE it, then you should use it, regardless of what a load of people on the internet think. it's your child after all.

Buster is a bloody excellent name

GibbonInARibbon · 04/03/2010 18:03

Maybe it's my age but I hear Buster and think of...

mathanxiety · 04/03/2010 18:03

There's Bea, pronounced BAY-a, or Beata, pr. Bay-AH-ta...

GibbonInARibbon · 04/03/2010 18:04

And now I'm singing 'lip up fatty'

Vulgar · 04/03/2010 18:21

My granny was called Bay.

She was born in norfolk in the 1890's.

Not a made up name in my family!

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 04/03/2010 18:24

Ditto Gibbon!

sungirltanhasanactualhairstyle · 04/03/2010 18:27

bay? sounds like the way janners pronounce the word 'boy'

RubiMama · 04/03/2010 18:29

Yes but it's not my name, I'm going to give it to someone else so I do kinda care what other people think, even though I don't want to.

May is nice

BessieBoots · 04/03/2010 18:32

I like it. A lot. It's not too weird imo and I think people will get used to it.

Heated · 04/03/2010 18:44

Hounds bay

westender · 04/03/2010 18:46

BAY - I immediately thought horse.

I would watch out if you have long face / flared nostrils / large teeth in the family that you might be passing on to her .

ShadeofViolet · 05/03/2010 07:46

Kirtsie Allsop's son is called Bay.

Magnima · 05/03/2010 08:18

I like it,there are loads of names that can be used for both genders so I wouldn't let that put you off. You have good feelings about the name having known someone with it. Don't let other people put you off, those who will love your child will love her name.

I also have a Bay on my family tree from the late 1800s

Am not about to revive it.

BarbaMamma · 05/03/2010 08:36

I think it's pretty. Makes me think 'harbour'. Another rare but lovely name is Lane. I think anyway.

RHL · 05/03/2010 09:36

Rhymes with 'gay' and 'lay' !!!!

cloelia · 05/03/2010 09:39

Wow! My dd's middle name is Lane which was a family name of ours. Also I knew an American girl called Lane at university. I read an article recently about some beautiful model type girl who was photographed as a little girl with her sister called Bay, can't remember who it was, think they were some journalist or writer's daughters. I quite like it tho she might be nn Baby which you might not like.

5DollarShake · 05/03/2010 09:40

I don't hate it, actually. Bay puts me in mind of a tall, willowy brunette.

WhoIsAsking · 05/03/2010 09:45

I'm still spluttering at "Pinky Gorgeous"

SoupDragon · 05/03/2010 10:03

I've heard worse (but that's not a compliment!)

There is a Tarragon at DDs nursery.

venusonarockbun · 05/03/2010 10:07

Awful - sorry.

lucysnowe · 05/03/2010 10:09

Gay used to be a name! What about May?

Ledodgy · 05/03/2010 10:11

Bay leaf
Summer Bay
Bay of Biscoe
