A cousin of mine named their daughter Persephone, which had us all talking as it's so unusual.
What are the most unusual names you've ever heard of?

I like Persephone too.

And euphemia, I work with a euphemia but we call her bing.

I really do like Geronimo. Geronimo Jukes has a good ring to it too. Shame I'm never likely to spawn again. Still,

My son is called Skyler. Am well used to this face but we like it .

Sky for a boy is unusual I think, but looks like he is likely to have a girl-Sky in his class at school...

We don't care if you all hate our unusual names

PfftTheMagicDragon · 12/02/2010 21:43

I love Persephone, I was not allowed though

doesn't Alex James have a Geronimo?

elliedodger · 13/02/2010 01:22

Years ago I worked in a bank and came across some very 'interesting' names.

I remember a Jumoke Salami.

Also a girl called 'Unique'. 'Fisling' was another unusual one.

CheerfulYank · 13/02/2010 01:33

I think Persephone is really pretty as well.

When I taught preschool I had a Blade. Also a Kedrick, both boys. Also I know a Macave (it was the initials of everyone in the family-Mitchell,Anthony, Cathy, Amie, Valerie, and Eric) who mostly goes by Mac or Mackie. Right now I know a Strickher, pronounced Striker.

I think Skyler's nice, Adair!

LittlePushka · 13/02/2010 01:36

A boy called Banjo

A girl called Endurance

BlackLetterDay · 13/02/2010 03:01

I know someone who has just called their ds AJ, I daren't ask if it's short for something as I might offend, but I don't think it is eek.

I thought her dd said Adrian at first which I thought was quite reasonable, but no.

juneybean · 13/02/2010 03:08

Antigone is greek no?

Kaloki · 13/02/2010 03:09

We are contemplating (if we have a DD) calling her Persephone.

I know someone who was going to name her child Wednesday Thirteen. No idea if she did, just really hope she didn't.

bellissima · 13/02/2010 08:29

I know a 40-something Persephone. And a Charmian.

To the person who said 'Temperance and Justice' I bet they were of African heritage - not that unusual for them, they tend to like names that are taken from virtues.

Most unusual for boys I have met are two brothers called Sol and Jupiter. (They'd be in their late teens now.)

Back in the eighties I met two girls of around 18 called Bo-Bo and Piper.

The worst I've across in the unusual stakes is a girl called Moet. Pronounced Moway. Just wrong on so many levels.

Fruitbatlings · 13/02/2010 10:05

There's a Thor in DS's class. Really suits him!

selenafan · 14/02/2010 21:47

My friend called her child Midnight Moon - and this is not a joke. The poor thing is a boy, and she gave birth to him at Midnight. She was writing a song to sing at the church hall, which she does sometimes, and since she couldn't think of a name, she looked out the window in hopes that a name will pop into her head, and hey presto, out came Midnight Moon. The sad thing is, she thinks it is the best name ever, and that she is a genius coming up with it .

nomorecake · 14/02/2010 22:35

for the people who said Ribena - i wonder if the name could have been Rubina? its an asian name.

TabithaTwitchet · 14/02/2010 22:43

Pebble

sammac · 14/02/2010 22:51

My dad is Hunter- he's in his 70s- never met anyone outside the family called that. he's big Hunter and his cousin (still) is wee Hunter.

Not so unusual now, but was quite good fun when there was a gladiator called Hunter- o the teasing he got!

MaggieMaeve · 14/02/2010 22:57

i know two women called temperence so it doesn't seem that unusual
one goes by tempi which is lovely i think.

used to live near a couple who called their dd boogie. bizarre! they appeared normal and sane!!
