Never thought I would ever need a boys name, bit after the shock of Saturdays scan we need one.

Nothing is jumping out at me, so anyone want a try.

Here's our criteria:

  1. Surname is one Syllable and starts with R, quite harsh sounding so need a name with at least 2 syllables so things like Jack are our

  2. Cannot have a name starting with R

  3. This child will be growing up in Scotland so more erm poncey upper class names will have him might as well having "beat me up" stamped across his forehead so names like Quentin, Augustus, Apollo, Cosmo etc are out

  4. I like traditional strong boys names, not keen on your more "modern" names i.e, anything with unusual spelling or starting with a K IYSWIM

  5. And of course blooming friends and family have pinched all the good ones.

So you see we have a job on our hands!

What are the names that you love that your friends have used? (Just to get an idea of what you like)

sweetkitty · 19/01/2010 11:41

StressedHEMum - I was brought up in the 3 Towns and live somewhere quite similar now so I know exactly what you mean, hence names that are lovely but more suited to middle England will not really do up here.

So far am liking:

Elliot (still favourite but don't know see above)
Daniel
Matthew

Can't have anything starting with R or a small name like Jack, Zac, Joe etc

I like:

Nathan
Oliver
Thomas
Jack
Andrew
Joseph
Lewis
Callum
Louis
Fraser
Blair

Realising that my boys names are a lot more traditional than my girls.

problem with nathan in scotland is (the one we knew anyway), if they're chubby, it turns into 'nae thin'

Oliver is a great name though

Megglevache · 19/01/2010 12:08

OOOh OOOOh SweetKitty one of mine
That's a first!

To be fair, I like every single name on your list although you cannot move around here for Callums, Lewis's (?)and Jacks.

dizzydixies · 19/01/2010 12:14

oohh you like some of mine

sweetkitty · 19/01/2010 12:15

Megglevache - the second I like list is the ones I like but cannot have, same here loads of Callums, Lewis's and Jacks, cannot have Nathan either

Oliver - well think of a well known drunken actor who died a few years ago, rules that out

sweetkitty · 19/01/2010 12:24

Dizzy - yes surname issues with Oliver, Daniel a maybe but is it too well safe (apologies to mums of Daniels) oh girls names are a lot easier
