Never thought I would ever need a boys name, bit after the shock of Saturdays scan we need one.

Nothing is jumping out at me, so anyone want a try.

Here's our criteria:

  1. Surname is one Syllable and starts with R, quite harsh sounding so need a name with at least 2 syllables so things like Jack are our

  2. Cannot have a name starting with R

  3. This child will be growing up in Scotland so more erm poncey upper class names will have him might as well having "beat me up" stamped across his forehead so names like Quentin, Augustus, Apollo, Cosmo etc are out

  4. I like traditional strong boys names, not keen on your more "modern" names i.e, anything with unusual spelling or starting with a K IYSWIM

  5. And of course blooming friends and family have pinched all the good ones.

So you see we have a job on our hands!

CSWS - I didn't know you were pregnant again, when are you due? I lose track of people on here.

boys are v hard to name I can think of 5 girls names off the top of my head

due 29th june sk . Unplanned but v happy about it .

We have 2 to pick between if it's a girl, and plenty more besides that we love too. Haven't considered middle names yet, but that can wait a while! It's coming up with a boy's name that's all consuming at the moment. we might end up having to pick which is better out of having the same initial as his brother, or having his middle name!

dizzydixies · 20/01/2010 10:11

CSWS!!!! you kept that quiet!! congratulations you were hard enough at picking a boys name the last time lol. Hope you are keeping well

kitty, what about

Conrad
Curtis
Callan - slight on Callum but much nicer imo

Raahh · 20/01/2010 11:16

Just been reading through this- and want to add don't be put off by the Elliott in scrubs thing-a) it is spelt wrong, imo- ds is Elliot (one t)- with 2 it is a surname (to me,anyway), and b) she does mention somewhere in the series that her dad named her elliott as a joke, because he wanted a boy.

It is a a fab name [totally unbiased opinion emoticon]

Raahh · 20/01/2010 11:18

Actually- i now think she does spell it with one t- but even so, calling a girl elliot is wrong!

Sazisi · 20/01/2010 11:31

Jacob or Tobias

Sazisi · 20/01/2010 11:32

Has anyone suggested Kevin or Martin?
Good sturdy names..

MaggieNilAonSneachta · 20/01/2010 11:42

Marty I could live with. I went out with a Martin once. Brothers were Keith and Neil. Such bad names!!

sweetkitty · 20/01/2010 12:20

dizzy - I know a Callan, Conrad or Curtis might have the "beat me up" thing going on sorry

I quite like Martin but up here it would get pronounced Mart-UN not so keen.

Kevin - no

Tbh sweetkitty, with all the restrictions you're working under, you probably are going to have to use a name someone else has already used or one that you don't feel is the 'perfect' name. Surely it's not a problem to use a name that a friend has used?

tiggergirl · 20/01/2010 12:36

sebastion short to sebbie
micheal
jake
bailey
laurie

Sazisi · 20/01/2010 13:17

dizzydixies · 20/01/2010 14:37

Jamieandhismagictorch · 20/01/2010 15:05

Nathan
Ned
Carl
Jake
Nicholas
Jason
Lee

Help !

sweetkitty · 20/01/2010 15:34

No it's not bad, it's just different to middle England that's all, we just don't have Crispins, Tarquins, Quentins, Augustus's (spp), Jago's etc up here, sadly in some ways.

So this is our list:
Elliot (my fav)
Logan (DP fav)
Matthew
Daniel
Marcus

OP posts:
Jamieandhismagictorch · 20/01/2010 15:47

I like all of those, except Logan

I'm not in middle England (inner London). Those names above are a bit posh (IMVHO) .....

MrsKitty · 20/01/2010 16:16

What about Dominic? - I think it would sound great with your surname! Also like Elliot, and if your issue with it is due to the Scrubs character, how likely is it that in 8-9 years time 9yo kids are even going to have heard of Scrubs?

Logan I like, but not with your surname.

sweetkitty · 20/01/2010 16:29

I don't like Logan either and it was the 5th most popular name in Scotland last year.

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 20/01/2010 16:41

Jamieandhismagictorch - re ned please see my earlier reply about Jake - and no this isn't my baby but I have a say

arolf · 20/01/2010 17:09

Logan's a surname anyway. see?
Did you comment on Niall, Angus and Graeme btw? they're good celtic-y names

Megglevache · 20/01/2010 17:30

Gaylord off then?

I'd put money on you calling him something really unusual...I have a feeling you will.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 20/01/2010 17:47

Ah, I see dizzy ........

sweetkitty · 20/01/2010 17:50

arolf - in Scotland it is very common for boys to have surnames as first names think Lewis, Finlay, Fraser, Nairn, Carrick, Blair, Stewart, Duncan etc

OP posts:
Jamieandhismagictorch · 20/01/2010 17:53

What about :

Jackson ?

jaylola · 20/01/2010 18:15

Jensen
Caleb
Joel
