Never thought I would ever need a boys name, bit after the shock of Saturdays scan we need one.

Nothing is jumping out at me, so anyone want a try.

Here's our criteria:

  1. Surname is one Syllable and starts with R, quite harsh sounding so need a name with at least 2 syllables so things like Jack are our

  2. Cannot have a name starting with R

  3. This child will be growing up in Scotland so more erm poncey upper class names will have him might as well having "beat me up" stamped across his forehead so names like Quentin, Augustus, Apollo, Cosmo etc are out

  4. I like traditional strong boys names, not keen on your more "modern" names i.e, anything with unusual spelling or starting with a K IYSWIM

  5. And of course blooming friends and family have pinched all the good ones.

So you see we have a job on our hands!

I think with your criteria which is strong, not old man, nothing to "modern" or "poncey" that you are bound to know at least one other, since those criteria are what most other people use too. You might get some variation in your choice of nn and of course your own child will make that name totally unique

I know how hard it can be to find a decent boys name that won't get them a kicking up here or a big sign pinned on them that says "Big Jesse!"

Hi SK - haven't been on here in years so it's lovely to see you're joining the mum of 4 club - congratulations!

Can't remember what your girls are called, but my 4 always seem to be paired up, so people talk about DD1 and DS1, and DD2 and DS2. So make sure the name rolls along with that of your DD3

Oh why is this SO hard, you would think after 3 girls I would have always had a boys name in reserve.

Dizzy - I was waiting on you lol your girls name is safe remember it's not my surname on FB he will be having, I wish it were in a way my surname goes with anything unlike DP's!

My girls all have Hebrew biblical names with 3 syllables each, I'm not that keen on giving him a Gaelic very Scottish name if the other 2 don't have one IYSWIM but wouldn't rule it out.

Aubergines · 19/01/2010 09:09

If your girls all have Hebrew biblical names I would stick to that theme. What about Reuben, Elias, Saul or Jacob?

Aubergines · 19/01/2010 09:13

Or Aaron, Barnabus, Nicholas or Marcus.

stressedHEmum · 19/01/2010 09:34

Bibilical sort of names. What about Reuben, Zachary, Benjamin, paul, James, David, Matthew, Caleb.

SAdly, all the best biblical names would get a boy a bit of a hard time round here, so I am loathe to suggest them. I know one Reuben, one Caleb and a couple of Zacs, though. Maybe its just where I live.
