I am not going to give my baby a surname

DP and I have decided not to give our new baby a traditional surname. We have issues with both our families and no desire to perpetuate their names with our offspring.

We have two inspirational friends who have passed away. They're names were Elizabeth and Anne. In honour of them our DD will have their names as her surname. So her full name will be Iris Poppy Elizabeth-Anne.

I know some people will think this is stupid but we think it is beautiful and meaningful.

Has anyone here done anything like this? What do people think?

change your own surnames to one you both like by deed poll then name your child what you want plus the new surname.

that's true mario and luigi - trying to think of any other strong females...How about Thatcher?....

there is a screenwriter called donna franceschild, she changed her name to honour her mother. i've always thought that was lovely. and a friend recently changed her and her child's name to honour her grandmother and start off her new family, again that was lovely.

i loathe your bastard men line, tbh i think that sort of attitude to men is infinitely more damaging than giving your daughter an awkward surname. (and elizabeth-anne is awkward.)

And my puppys name is Poppy, thats a wonderful choice.

COming from someone who has a very unusual name I have spent the last 35 years hating it and having to explain it still at least twice a week. It's incredibly selfish what you want to do. Change your own name if you so wish but don't put such a nasty curse on your own child.
