What is your child called, and what do they GET called?

Everyone spells DS's name wrong, but it is spelt a few different ways so I can forgive it.

Perfect spot to vent over newborn son being called Marcus by a variety of people - including my dad and brother! It's MAGNUS.

Final insult was to get child benefit, and then Child Trust Fund voucher addressed to Marcus. They had the birth certificate to get the name from

My dd ıs Joanna and most people saıd Joanne when she was lıttle ın the 70s.She used to say A very loudly-ıts odd cos I stıll love the name Joanna and dont really lıke Joanne however she has been Jo for years so I suppose ıt doesnt matter any more.

MaggieBeauLeo · 21/08/2009 21:11

Marcus is a beautiful name. QUite underused and a Roman classic to boot. Fabulous name.

MaggieBeauLeo · 21/08/2009 21:11

pranma · 21/08/2009 21:12

bleep, malfunction, syntax error.

I am picturing you like one of those machines from the 1970s smash ads.

BakewellTarts · 21/08/2009 21:14

My MIL calls DD1 EVElyn rather than EvElyn (sorry not that good at phonetic typing but think Celtic rather than English pronunciation). Still a pretty name but NOT my DDs, drives me mad. Then there are my friends who insist on calling her Evie...

Deeeja · 21/08/2009 21:52

People would regularly call ds1 by the female version of his name, he was not amused. Now he is older most call him by a nickname.
People often pronounce ds2's name slightly wrong, which used to annoy me so much, since I prefer the way I pronounce it. But what really gets my goat is the complete mispronunciation of ds3's name, with all the emphasis of on the wrong syllables, ruined a beautiful name.
Am now expecting a dd, I want to call her Zahra, with the 'h' definately pronounced, but even my dsis is saying it without the 'h', I am not happy.

MaggieLeo · 22/08/2009 10:53

deeeja how do you pronounce an h in the middle of a word?

LittleMissWorryHead · 22/08/2009 10:54

I have a friend who constantly writes Chloe as Cloe and it really pisses me off.

Deeeja · 23/08/2009 01:17

MaggieLeo, it is an Arabic name. I may have to give up on it though, I can see myself being constantly annoyed, no way will teachers pronounce it correctly at school.

cheesesarnie · 23/08/2009 01:19

people end dd's name with an 'ie' instead of a 'y'.even her teachers!

Linnet · 23/08/2009 01:55

Most people spell dd1's name with an E in it, but it doesn't have an E in it as it's not the Irish spelling of the name that she has it's the Persian spelling. But there is an actress with the same name so everyone thinks it's spelt the same way as her.

Dd2's name only has one L in it but some people spell it with two.

devientenigma · 23/08/2009 09:59

My dd Kelsey, gets spelt wrong as well as being called Chelsea and Elsie.
My ds Brynley has numerous wrong spellings and gets called Brynsly, Bryndley, Bradley, Brineally. Brynally ....He has even been transfered from 1 hospital to another(heart condition) as Brittney (wrong sex).

Fluffypoms · 23/08/2009 10:58

My Dd1 Raegan thought if we had spelt it this way she wouldnt then get called reegan but still does she not impressed

tummytickler · 23/08/2009 12:45

My ds is called Eli, simple you would think!
My cousin always writed Eligh on his cards, despite nearly 7 years of us sending her cards with the right spelling on. She seems determined to make it more complicated than it is

bexincornwall · 27/08/2009 12:12

My ds name is Louis, which gets spelt Luis, Louie, Lewis and pronounced most commonly Lewis or even Louise!? (Louise by the doctors intercom - every time). Drives me insane, we thought we'd chosen one that you couldn't get wrong!!

Kathrina · 28/08/2009 18:55

All of my childrens names get spelt wrong my eldest Georgia is often Georgina?? my son is Aidan spelt Aiden even by his auntie and he is now 6!!! My youngest is Keira spelt Kiera, Keera, Kira the list is endless it just annoys me that people dont ask how it is spelt they just put it down anyway.

mummytowillow · 29/08/2009 20:30

My daughter is called Cerys, in the doctors when she went for her first injections the nurse called out very loudly 'Cerise' as in the colour, I was mortified as everyone looked at me as if I was mad!

I made sure they all heard me correct her!!

thirdname · 29/08/2009 20:39

dh mispronounces dc2's name
granddad/sister mispronounces dc1's name

sheepgomeep · 31/08/2009 15:37

yes all the time. ds is called ciaran (kieran)

He gets called Klaron
cheeron , Caron,

It really annoys me

sheepgomeep · 31/08/2009 15:38

dd2 is an Elinor, people still insist on spelling it Eleanor.

So she is now an Ellie

muminthecity · 31/08/2009 15:54

DD is called Daisy, we have had Daisie and exMIL always spells it Daisey, every bloody time, even though I've corrected her 100,000 times. She even bought DD a personalised bed canopy with Daisey written on it!

I pay money into DD's trust fund by direct debit each month and it always shows up as 'Dazy Trust Fund' on my bank statement!

slim22 · 31/08/2009 16:02

My son has a foreign name (as in arabic foreign). Very easy to pronounce yet, feels like most people make a point of making it sound more exotic.
More often than not we get the jewish biblical version, when most people know we are muslim born. You'd think teachers and class mums could make an effort after a couple of years, no?
Not that we are of religious disposition anyway, so couldn't care less really
