What is your child called, and what do they GET called?

Everyone spells DS's name wrong, but it is spelt a few different ways so I can forgive it.

My family have never learnt to spell the abbreviated form of my name the way I prefer it - with a 'ie' rather than a 'y'. I'm now 35, and have given up all hope.

I don't even bother expecting anyone else to spell my name right, or even remember what it is.

DevilsAdvocaat · 10/01/2009 23:31

my name is emma and once had it spelled 'emmer'!

doesn't matter how 'normal' your name is, some fucker will always spell it wrongly

DevilsAdvocaat · 10/01/2009 23:31

i realise i am not my child but i wanted to share.

poshwellies · 10/01/2009 23:48

at emmer ha

My children get their names spelt wrong and ds gets his name pronounced wrong all the time,he's learnt to correct thickfucks them.

MarchNowFebMum · 11/01/2009 23:50

We named our dd Sanam (pronounced SA-nem) which is pretty much always messed up. But I have an unusual name and it never bothered me so we decided to go for it. I still like the name - and very much think it's 'her' name - but sometimes I am still worried if she'll be frustrated later in life.

Lilybeto · 12/01/2009 00:19

My name is Jacqueline. People often get it wrong, but some people get it too wrong. I have had Jakeline, Jackie-lyn, Jackaalime. WTF??

hannahlouhoo · 12/01/2009 01:00

lovelysongbirdie · 12/01/2009 09:55

gravesy72 · 12/01/2009 16:00

My sons name is harley but he continually gets Harvey. Although he is 5 has learnt to tell people it's not Harvey its Harley

Ivykaty44 · 12/01/2009 16:04

Several of my dd's friends drop the t from her name, even the friend with the same name.

ginormoboobs · 18/08/2009 15:23

His name is Lachlan. We pn it Lock-lin
Other people pn it Lack-lan.
We pn it that way as we did not want him to have the Nickname of lackie as it means skivvie!
We call him Lachie (lawkey).
I do get peed off when people insist on pn his name as Lack-lan.

LadyOfWaffle · 18/08/2009 15:27

Joseph

From DHs family we have had all sorts - Joesehp, Josepher (all the time from MIL), Jospeh - it's endless. I am not sure we have had one card that is spelt correctly! One of his middle names is Malachi - I dread to think if we had used it as his first name!

DD3 is called Dylan which I fully expect confusion over HOWEVER my FIL insists on pronouncing it DYE-LON?!?!?

DD2 is Lexie and he calls her Laxie and he can never remember DD1's name either and its easy and common and not gender confused

madremia09 · 18/08/2009 17:23

my dd is called luisa but it is not louisa like everyone thinks!!! grrrr.it is a spanish name and is said like looeesa!! even mil gets it wrong.rather annoying but hey louisa is nice too

madremia09 · 18/08/2009 17:26

just realised my explanation of how it is said can be said as louisa too, lmao.
dont know howto explain it really? emphasis on the "S"? like a harsh sounding s rather than soft?
oh well i give up,you get my jist haha

GooseyLoosey · 18/08/2009 17:28

The dcs both have Irish names. Anyone who sees them written down cannot pronounce them and anyone who just hears them cannot write them down. In public places like the doctors, they are referred to as Master and Miss Gooosey as the receptionist don't dare attempt the names. Not a problem though for them or me. They quite like the fact that no one gets their names on first attempt and I never thought that anyone would.

KirstyJC · 18/08/2009 17:49

My name, Kirsty, has been written in all sorts of odd ways. Kirstie, Kirstey, and my personal favourite Curstie.

DS1 is Louis - usually pronounced Lewis by anyone who sees it written down.

A while ago, a nurse at the hospital called him Lewis, I said 'no it's Louis' and she insisted that it was 'Lewis' and showed me the card, saying look it says Lewis. How do you spell it then? Err, Louis. 'But that is pronounced Lewis'. Well, by you, clearly. By anyone with any sense, no. (How can 16 kings of France be wrong?!). She then made me spend ages confirming all sorts of other details to make sure he really was who the appt card said he was, since she didn't believe it was the correct boy!! Stupid woman!

ithinkmydaughterispeppapig · 18/08/2009 19:18

3 out my DC get their names spelt wrong even by their own family [grr..]

Connor gets spelt Conner
Jodi gets spelt Jodie
Sonny gets spelt Sunnie
At least no one ever gets Tyler wrong!!

I know they are all correct spellings but it's not the way I spell them!!!

Also my name is Maria not Marie, nothing against the name Marie it's just not my name.
Drives me crazy when I have to correct people and sometimes even though I have corrected them I still get called Marie

BakuMum · 19/08/2009 16:03

We have a DS2 named Emil. Whilst he hasnt yet been called Emily, he did receive a first birthday card from my Aunt addressed to Email.... planning on DS3 called facebook.

Alishanty · 19/08/2009 21:55

We have a Solomon which more often than not gets spelled Soloman and occasionally Soliman! Drives me nuts as I always make a point of writing his name in full in cards so that people will 'get it' for next time but they don't.
We have an Esme which we pronounce Es-mee, which sometimes gets pronounced 'Esmay' and sometimes people spell it Esmie or variation.
My name is Alice and when i was younger I frequently got called 'Alison'. Thankfully now Alice is more in vogue than Alison it is happening less and less.

HecatesTwopenceworth · 19/08/2009 22:01

My eldest often gets called Gareth, - that's NOT his name and many people spell his actual name with an a and an e even though it is 2 'a's (not next to each other )

And nobody is quite sure how to spell or pronounce ds2's name

they are both quite unusual, to be fair. But it still pisses me off

TattyCatty · 19/08/2009 22:08

DD is Scarlett, which is regularly spelt with just one "t", like the colour rather than the name. At the ripe old age of 3.5, she is already quick to correct anybody that calls her Charlotte by mistake!

aoifesmama · 19/08/2009 22:28

DD is only 4 months and is Aoife - think I cant count on one hand how many times its been spelt correctly. Lots of variations when people say her name, Evie, Eva, Adif ?!

DH is Isaac and his always gets spelt wrong too.

SKYTVADDICT · 19/08/2009 22:33

DD2 is Freya and my ex MIL can't spell it correctly even after 9 years !!

She spells is Frayer ! and has been told many times.
