scattercushion · 09/12/2008 10:43

Lovin' Jammy! There is a Boris at my dd's nursery. I expected his parents to be slightly unconventional types but they aren't!

Gorionine · 09/12/2008 10:48

OMG just checked DCs'names popularrity.
DD1 down 39000 from last year
DS3 down 300+ from last year
DD4 down 600= from last year

HOW AM I GOING TO EXPLAIN THAT TO THEM????????

on the other hand, DS2's unusual name up 40000!

I will wait to see next years results before I bring up the subject

UnquietDad · 09/12/2008 11:23

LOL at Tundra and Permafrost. I bet someone, somewhere knows a Prairie. And a Rainforest.

flynn1984 · 09/12/2008 12:25

Well a friend of mine's sister is a midwife and she tells me hundreds of weird names including:

Pocahontas Britney Larsson O'Neill (O'neill isn't the person's surname!)

Misty Dew

These names are no joke I couldn't help but laugh when I heard the first one!

jeee · 09/12/2008 12:26

When lecturing I did look slightly askance at a tutorial list that included Omar Sharif, and Elvis Goodluck

lotuseener · 09/12/2008 13:26

I already posted weird names on another thread, but I just remembered what a dear friend's cousin named his son----

JUBIL WATERMELON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I am not taking the piss- that's really the poor little boy's name. But the lad is growing up in Boulder, Colorado so I don't imagine that many people will raise an eyebrow.

Also, in my hometown a couple moved in from LA and opened up a bar/restaurant called PANGEA.

Guess who they named it after?

Their daughter, Pangea!!!

We3kingsoforientRaahh · 09/12/2008 13:32

rofl- i have just checked dds name on the popularity list to find she is listed as having dropped 34850 past year-

then i realised i had put that she was a BOY!!!

Now, had i been introduced to A (male) Millicent last year, i would have laughed!!

Needless to say Millie is in the top 50!!

earthpixie · 09/12/2008 16:21

There was a lady in Pregnancy and Birth mag recently (?) who had an older son Flash and triplets Blue, Moss and Wolf.

I would never name my child anything like that but I do kinda like them!

subtlemouse · 09/12/2008 16:28

Gemzooks, my stats come from the Register of Births, through Ancestry.co.uk - I have a subscription, if you'd like me to check any names in particular...

subtlemouse · 09/12/2008 16:36

Oh, and there are

3 Prairies

but no Tundra or Rainforests yet!

(And there is an Angel Buffy out there: is it really fair for diehard fans to do this to their kids? And I speak as the proud provider of services to two animal companions called Xena and Gabby...)

Gemzooks · 09/12/2008 16:36

ah, thanks! It's ok. I'm sure the ones I like are not popular, but the ones DH AND me like probably are! It doesn't help that my son's name is on ghettobabynames.com or some such..

Quattrocento · 09/12/2008 16:38

Persephone

SummerC · 09/12/2008 18:50

Oooh...my name is #38!! My poor dd is only #289, although it is up from last year.
