Narrowed it down to four names…

ZiggyStardew · 30/06/2026 16:22

There are four names me and my partner agree on for our baby girl due next month…

Hazel
Robyn
Iris
Olive

I’m surprised this is our final list as originally we only wanted unisex / tomboy names like Billie, Frankie, Stevie etc but we couldn’t agree on one as we both know people IRL (or have exes) with all of these names, so I think now we’re going with a timeless nature-inspired name instead.

So I just want opinions as I’m not sure how popular / unpopular our final four are or what connotations they kay have. Any input appreciated.

They are all lovely names my favourite is Robyn though my ndn is Robyn a d she is a darling ❤️

EnterQueene · 30/06/2026 16:31

I love them all, so you can't go wrong. In order of favourites, my list would be:

1 - Iris
2 - Olive
3 - Hazel
4 - Robyn

MsTrish · 30/06/2026 16:32

I love Iris. The others are lovely too though.

DramaAlpaca · 30/06/2026 16:32

You've got four of my favourite names there, so I'm not going to be much help! I think Robyn is my least favourite of the four, though.

Actually, I've just seen @EnterQueene's post and I agree with her order of preference.

Chunkyblacklab · 30/06/2026 16:33

Wow, a list of just lovely names! I'm very pleased you moved away from your original choices, these are all much better. I like them all, would probably lean towards Hazel. Iris is popular around me.

FloodlightsOnTheSquare · 30/06/2026 16:36

Strike Olive from your list! It just sounds so…lumpen. It’s not even a nice sound to say.

Hazel and Robyn are ok, quite 80s/90s vibes to me.

IwanttoWFH · 30/06/2026 16:37

My next door neighbour is named Hazel and she’s the oddest woman I’ve ever met, so that puts me off! Our adopted kitten was also called Hazel, so that had to change! Hazel seems to be very popular on Mumsnet, so it could become quite a commonly used name.

1 - Robyn
2 - Olive
3 - Iris
4 - Hazel

Tryagain26 · 30/06/2026 16:38

My favourite is Iris which I think is lovely as is the flower.
I'm not keen on the others
For some reason I don't like Robyn at all. I don't know if it's use for a girl originated in the USA but that's what it sounds like to me
Hazel and Olive just remind me of rather dull older ladies.
But that is probably just my own prejudices and my age. They are all perfectly good names

7238SM · 30/06/2026 16:47

Lovely choices overall. I personally hate Billie, Stevie, Bobby, Frankie for girls.

My favourite is Iris.

Robyn is ok but for some reason I prefer Wren
I also think of Olive and Hazel are ladies in their 90's, mainly due to relatives who had those names and both were cantankerous 😂

I have no idea how popular the names are currently, but might be something to consider too.

Mumofgirls2017 · 30/06/2026 16:55

They’re all nice though I’ve never been a huge fan of Robyn due to the spelling! I’d pick iris though only by a margin!

Icanseeasquirrel · 30/06/2026 17:00

Love Robyn and Hazel. Beautiful bird and tree too.
Also Rowan for a girl is lovely. And unisex!

ZiggyStardew · 30/06/2026 17:00

Ahh, see, I’ve always been a bit of a tomboy, and my partner and I are both really sporty. We’ve naturally gravitated towards more gender-neutral things for the baby, so we’ve gone with a neutral nursery and clothes rather than anything overly pink or frilly. That’s probably why we’ve always loved names like Billie and Frankie.

I think our final four names are a bit more traditionally feminine than we’d normally go for. I do really love them, but sometimes I second-guess whether they still feel like “us.” We do love nature though.

Absolutely love Rowan and considering it for a middle name. It would have been my top choice but we know someone fairly close to us who chose the name for their daughter and it just doesn’t feel like ours anymore.

I really these! In order: Olive, Iris, Robyn. Not so keen on Hazel.

Julcandoit · 30/06/2026 17:03

Absolutely adore the name Olive and I like Hazel.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 30/06/2026 17:04

1 - Robyn
2 - Hazel
3 - Iris
4 - Olive

Tonissister · 30/06/2026 17:05

I love Robyn.

Not keen on Olive...who wants to be named after a salty snack? And Iris I associate with a very unpleasant woman, but most people love it.

Hazel is quite nice.

Lins77 · 30/06/2026 17:06

Iris is my favourite - I love it. Also really like Robyn.

Of the four, Olive is my least favourite.

trainkeepsgoing · 30/06/2026 17:07

Great choices! My favourites are Robyn and Olive

ThePM · 30/06/2026 17:08

Another Iris vote here.

BoleynMemories13 · 30/06/2026 17:10

You have a lovely list, which I much prefer to Frankie, Billie etc

My order of preference would be:

Iris
Hazel
Olive
Robyn

However, if you are naturally draw to unisex names maybe Robyn is the best fit for you?

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 30/06/2026 17:11

I like all of these! Iris is beautiful, but they are all nice.

I had a cow called Hazel so I have a soft spot for the name too.

Robins are awful birds!!

Oliveoy · 30/06/2026 17:15

Hazel is a woman who works in HR and wears polyester blouses. She's not a baby

Contrarymary30 · 30/06/2026 17:15

Not keen on Olive ( olive oil) but the others are nice .
