Narrowed it down to four names…

There are four names me and my partner agree on for our baby girl due next month…

Hazel
Robyn
Iris
Olive

I’m surprised this is our final list as originally we only wanted unisex / tomboy names like Billie, Frankie, Stevie etc but we couldn’t agree on one as we both know people IRL (or have exes) with all of these names, so I think now we’re going with a timeless nature-inspired name instead.

So I just want opinions as I’m not sure how popular / unpopular our final four are or what connotations they kay have. Any input appreciated.

Great list much better than Frankie and Billie

I love Hazel the most , but saying you love nature and gender neutral nursery I would go with Olive or maybe Fern.

Puffykins · 30/06/2026 17:17

Iris is the loveliest.

17caterpillars1mouse · 30/06/2026 17:17

I like them all but am hearing Robyn everywhere so woukd avoid that.

Hazel is my least favourite

Iris is gorgeous, but i think Olive would be my choice

NamingNoNames · 30/06/2026 17:21

In order:
Iris - like
Hazel - like
Robyn - not keen, prefer Robin but think it's more of a boy's name.
Olive - don't like it at all. Too oily.

I'd try them with the surname. One will probably sound better than the others.

Fern was also on top of my list but it doesn’t go with our last name at all unfortunately

Robin, Iris, Hazel, Olive
But if it has to be Robyn then Iris,Hazel, Robyn, Olive.

On nature names - I recently read a book (not What Katy Did!) with a character called Clover, and I think it's pretty.

flowerworld · 30/06/2026 17:28

Love Olive, my daughter’s name. Also love Iris.
I do like Billie though for a girl

24Dogcuddler · 30/06/2026 17:28

Love Iris and Robyn
Not keen on Olive or Hazel sorry.

JustGiveMeReason · 30/06/2026 17:29

I like Hazel, but am not keen on the others.

I particularly don't like changing the spelling of Robin

user293948849167 · 30/06/2026 17:29

I love Hazel and Iris
I’m not keen on Robyn for a girl but it’s not horrible or anything
Really don’t like Olive, Olivia is much nicer

7238SM · 30/06/2026 17:33

We’ve naturally gravitated towards more gender-neutral things for the baby.... That’s probably why we’ve always loved names like Billie and Frankie

Its just me, but I see Billie/Frankie etc as 'Oh, we didn't have a boy so I'll try to feminise a boys name'.

Sesquioxides · 30/06/2026 17:33

I love Robyn, Hazel, and have you considered Heather?

Mosaic80 · 30/06/2026 17:34

I love all those. My order would be:

Robyn (perfect imo as it’s slightly gender neutral as well and could work with Robbie or Bobbie shortening).
olive
hazel
iris (only because I’ve known a couple and it feels a bit more frilly than the others so less “you” 🤔, still a lovely name)

Id wait till baby is born and then see which suits her best.

PurpleReindeer2 · 30/06/2026 17:34

I like Hazel and then Iris but really don't like either of the other two.

backformoreofthesame · 30/06/2026 17:34

Billie and Frankie were standard shortenings of willemina ( sorry can’t spell) and Frances so they are girls

Amazonjaunt · 30/06/2026 17:35
  1. Hazel
  2. Iris
  3. Robyn
  4. Olive

Strike Olive from your list! It just sounds so…lumpen. It’s not even a nice sound to say.

Hazel and Robyn are ok, quite 80s/90s vibes to me.

I agree that Olive is a name that leaves me cold. It isn't even a very pretty fruit - and the tree, whilst iconic, is kind of gnarled and twisty.

My favourite is Hazel, but Robyn has the merit of fitting your tomboy feel that you started out looking for, and is also probably the most timeless. Hazel is having something of a moment, and has been for a few years.

We actually was hoping for a girl, but we’re quite non-traditional ourselves / don’t really confirm to gender stereotypes so that’s why the unisex leanings.

Maybe go with Robyn then. I know Robyns who go by Robbie or Rob.

PenandPip · 30/06/2026 17:45

Robyn. It's my nieces name and I love it. Fwiw, Robyns Gramdmother is called Olive... not a fan.

Olive does have a bit of a "nan's friends" vibe, to me 😄

But lots of people like it and it's less prevalent than Olivia.

Excellentsausages · 30/06/2026 17:50

Of these I'd say Hazel, then Iris, then Robin (spelt with an i), then Olive. I love Robin better for boys though although I know it's more popular with girls.

Other nature suggestions:

Wren
Ember
Rowan
River
Meadow

Babyputyourpantson · 30/06/2026 17:52

Robyn and Hazel are lovely

Iris and Olive i think are a bit twee!

What about Autumn?
