Narrowed it down to four names…

There are four names me and my partner agree on for our baby girl due next month…

Hazel
Robyn
Iris
Olive

I’m surprised this is our final list as originally we only wanted unisex / tomboy names like Billie, Frankie, Stevie etc but we couldn’t agree on one as we both know people IRL (or have exes) with all of these names, so I think now we’re going with a timeless nature-inspired name instead.

So I just want opinions as I’m not sure how popular / unpopular our final four are or what connotations they kay have. Any input appreciated.

Really like Iris and Olive - if you go with Olive could always call her Ollie?

Hazel and Robyn are nice and less popular than Iris and Olive nowadays.

Julcandoit · 30/06/2026 17:59

Very close relative is named Olive and we have yet to pick up on any negativity with her name. She was born in quite a Bohemian area and now living in a very different type of town and her name is a popular name there as well .

ainsleysanob · 30/06/2026 18:00

Iris
Hazel
Robyn
Olive

but Stevie is my all time favourite girls name so that!

lemoncrisp · 30/06/2026 18:03

Not so keen on Olive - it still reminds me of 'On the Buses' but that just shows how old I am. Love Robyn Iris and Hazel.

3within3 · 30/06/2026 18:04

How about Sage? Or Eden?

MrsKateColumbo · 30/06/2026 18:07

Iris! Beautiful
The others are nice too

abracadabra1980 · 30/06/2026 18:08

Lovely list - Olive is my favourite. On a other slant, is Heather not due for a resurgence?

SleeplessStudent · 30/06/2026 19:41

my favourites in order are Iris, Hazel, Robyn then Olive. Olive is far behind the others.

CatherineCawoodsbestie · 30/06/2026 19:54

Throwing a curveball - but we also considered nature names and gender neutral names . We also liked one syllable girls names that sounded strong/ no nonsense to us.

Tess
Nell
Meg
Cass

etc

RumAndCola · 30/06/2026 19:54

I love Iris, Robin (not keen on the Robyn spelling) and Olive.
I don’t like Hazel though, it sounds like a pets name.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 30/06/2026 20:02

Robyn
Iris
Hazel

lovely names though I think they are all getting quite popular.
i really don’t like Olive at all. I just think ‘and feta, with chillies, on pizza…’

Dozer · 30/06/2026 20:17

Billie and Frankie are ‘girly’ names in another guise. Frankie isn’t used for boys and the unisex spelling would be Billy.

Robyn spelling (rather than Robin) is ‘girly’ for the same reason.

Olive is marmite: some DC can carry it off.

I dislike the flower Iris but otherwise like the name.

Like Hazel.

Judging · 30/06/2026 20:19

Not mad about Olive or Robyn, but Hazel and Iris are lovely.

Marwoodsbigbreak · 30/06/2026 20:21

Robyn

PrettyLittleRose · 30/06/2026 20:25

Any of the 4 but Olive (sorry, I am not keen on that at all, even though it seems to be gaining popularity.) It's right up there with Beryl IMO. Or Maureen. Any of the other 3, but my fave would be Robyn, followed by Hazel, and then Iris. I don't dislike Iris, but all I think of is the eye colour 👁 when I see Iris. JMO.

BauhausOfEliott · 30/06/2026 20:27

I like Robyn best. Iris is also nice.

I’m not keen on Olive or Hazel but that’s just a personal preference; they’re not unpleasant names at all!

PrettyLittleRose · 30/06/2026 20:31

I wonder why so few of us like the name Olive? 👀

Narrowed it down to four names…
OtherS · 30/06/2026 20:33

Iris.

Only Iris for me really, sorry.

Robyn just reminds me of green tights, Hazel's very mousy and middle-aged, and Olive has a greasy t-zone. And is bonking Popeye.

SleepQuest33 · 30/06/2026 20:33

My vote goes to Robyn

not keen on olive

NuffSaidSam · 30/06/2026 20:37

I love your list.

I'd go for Robyn if you want something unisex as, spelling aside, it's good for both boys and girls. And it a great name.

Olive, second choice, so you can use Oli/Ollie as a nickname which gets you back to unisex. And it's a great name.

I also really love Hazel, but that one is definitely feminine.

Not keen on Iris, just makes me think about eyes!

Frances is another neutral (albeit not the spelling) name to consider (and brings you back to Frankie potentially!).

AssortedWords · 30/06/2026 20:43

Hazel is my favourite. Lovely name!

Maomee · 30/06/2026 20:45

Iris is the stand out for me by a mile. It's a very classic name, pretty but also not too girly..

ElizaMulvil · 30/06/2026 20:48

Not Robyn. Always going to be spelt wrong.

PatriciaRocks · 30/06/2026 20:49

Oliveoy · 30/06/2026 17:15

Hazel is a woman who works in HR and wears polyester blouses. She's not a baby

She was once. I've met a baby Hazel and think it's a lovely name.
OP, I like all your choices. My favourites are Robyn and Hazel, but the other two are also nice.

ToadRage · 30/06/2026 20:50

I like Iris and Robyn. Don't like the other two. A family member has just had a little girl whose middle name is Robyn.
