Narrowed it down to four names…

There are four names me and my partner agree on for our baby girl due next month…

Hazel
Robyn
Iris
Olive

I’m surprised this is our final list as originally we only wanted unisex / tomboy names like Billie, Frankie, Stevie etc but we couldn’t agree on one as we both know people IRL (or have exes) with all of these names, so I think now we’re going with a timeless nature-inspired name instead.

So I just want opinions as I’m not sure how popular / unpopular our final four are or what connotations they kay have. Any input appreciated.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Robyn & Olive are definitely my favorite and you can still use a tomboy nickname if you would like like Robbie or Ollie

iloveanearlynight · 01/07/2026 15:05

Hazel. Without a doubt.

If i was choosing for myself

1 Iris
2 Hazel
3 Olive
4 Robyn

However, I think Robyn could be a good fit for you, it fits your original unisex idea.

Thefinalcountup · 01/07/2026 15:15

Hazel and Iris were in our top 4 for our 7 week old baby girl and I started a thread.
I was surprised by the extent of the love for Iris, it seems very popular on Mumsnet but I've never heard it much in real life.
I do like it and I like the meaning but it didn't feel quite 'us

Out of your list I would probably choose Hazel but Robyn is nice and gives Bobbi if you like the gender neutral thing.
I'm not overly keen on Olive personally but I don't dislike it.

Scaryspicer · 01/07/2026 15:18

Iris
hazel
olive
robyn

Purplecatshopaholic · 01/07/2026 15:22

First three are all fine. Favourite is Iris. Please not Olive, its just so ugly.

TheIdlerReturns · 01/07/2026 15:35

I'm team Olive.

SailingYachty · 01/07/2026 15:49

They’re all lovely names, and relatively unusual. The one I think will be most polarising is Olive, there’s some negative connotations and I just don’t think I’d want to be named after a food! I really liked Iris but when I was naming babies Isis was a big thing and it was just too similar.

BigPurpleBookQueen · 01/07/2026 17:57

All very lovely.
i personally love Hazel but whichever one you choose is will be great.

maybe wait until baby is here & see which one fits best.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 01/07/2026 17:59
  1. Robyn
2.Iris
PrincessMonty · 01/07/2026 18:04

My beautiful daughter is named Hazel, we chose it because the meaning is linked to feminine power, and healing. I like the other three names as well, the best of luck whichever you choose

iloveanearlynight · 02/07/2026 04:54

Olive is ugly as is Iris tbh. It's the coloured part of the eye. I love Hazel.

Shelleyblueeyes · 02/07/2026 06:32

I like American names.

Recently heard about
Navy
Sailor

Love these.

Strike Olive from your list! It just sounds so…lumpen. It’s not even a nice sound to say.

Hazel and Robyn are ok, quite 80s/90s vibes to me.

I’ll tell that to my newborn baby grand daughter when she’s a bit older 😂

To the OP, I like Iris, and our baby Olive looks just like a little round Olive and her name suits her perfectly. Everyone is entitled to like or dislike a name but how a name can be described as “lumpen” is ridiculous. It’s been a name a couple of hundred years, and variations of it for much longer.

OopsieeDaisy · 02/07/2026 14:37

I love Robyn and Iris is lovely too. Olive is ok but I’m not a fan of Hazel at all.
I also love Amber for a nature name and Billie and Frankie (Francesca) from your original list.

Jk987 · 02/07/2026 14:43

Iris is beautiful 🤩

Sparklinggreen · 02/07/2026 15:39

Robyn

not keen on the rest

did you consider Olivia instead of Olive?

AlcoholicAntibiotic · 02/07/2026 15:48

i know babies born in the last year with 2 of those names!

I like them all except Olive. Iris is probably my favourite. Iris Rowan is a nice combination as well

Xmasallergies · 02/07/2026 17:59

Robyn I think is for boys and girls?

MyOliveStork · 02/07/2026 18:01

Definitely Iris, is such a pretty name x
If I had had another girl I liked Violet which I think is very similar really (pretty as a flower).
They are all nice names though x

mumnosbest · Yesterday 08:34

I love Iris and Olive. I wanted DD to be Olive and my mum is an Iris. Both beautiful and timeless. Also as a teacher, I haven't taught many.

BuntyBeaufort · Yesterday 08:54

I’m jealous that you’re able to consider Robin (sorry I prefer that spelling), as I wanted it for DD but was vetoed and didn’t put my foot down.
Love Hazel too, but I just can’t imagine a bright, lively, attractive child called Olive. So drab.

lottiegarbanzo · Yesterday 17:09

Three lovely names, one I find really ugly; Olive.

No bad associations, none too popular.

namestealer · Yesterday 17:16

Love 3 of them - not really keen on Robyn, it's s nice enough name, just not too my taste.

My order of preference:
Hazel
Iris
Olive
Robyn

Hallywally · Yesterday 17:26
  1. Iris
  2. Hazel
  3. Robyn
  4. Olive (don’t like this at all. Other three are okay)
