Someone who loved Judge Dread was going to call child Dread. Thankfully was persuaded otherwise.

I saw 1 the other day one of those name things on nursery wall next to the cot to announce baby name. The name was Lakeland second name began with R I’ve forgotten what it was but wasn’t much better. Lots in the comments taking the piss.

Another one I saw was Elae pronounced LA mother was ranting nobody knows how to spell say it. When she tells them they assume baby has 2 letters for her name.

I interviewed a man called Bigboy. I'll make no further comment.

Who looks at a beautiful newborn baby and thinks "Yep, it's a gangster, pimp or pornstar name that this little fella needs!" ?

VerityUnreasonble · 12/02/2026 13:28

I did know someone whose surname was Hunt and gave their child a name starting with C. Perfectly nice first name but C Hunt felt a bit unfortunate. Would have been equally bad if they'd had a boy named Michael (but they didn't).

wishingonastar101 · 12/02/2026 13:28

Relative was threatening to call son Len and daughter Nel.

AsACloud · 12/02/2026 13:29

There’s a Winston Churchill at my work. Clearly not a bad name but I think it’s such a lifelong burden to put on a child. I’m sure almost everyone he encounters must comment or ask about his name.

Oh.
I can't imagine many people would make that link 🤷

Tbf most woman would be aware of it.
Anyone who's ever worked in a hospital, gp surgery, pharmacy etc so that's a lot of people

Not awful names in themselves, but I have come across twins named Andrew and Andrea, and another set named Rochelle and Rochella which is unimaginative at best.

Genevieva · 12/02/2026 13:31

Urina

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 12/02/2026 13:31

My DB might have been called Nelson, apparently. I was nearly called Charlotte. I had visions of us being nicknamed Nellie and Charlie...

A teacher friend told me about a child she once taught: first name Zippadee, middle name Doodah, surname Day. His parents said they liked the song…

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 12/02/2026 13:35

I once came across a baby called Lilith. The parents had been inspired by the character on Frasier. They clearly didn't understand the joke.

Malena is short for Magdalena in Spanish. Met a few, especially Argentinian Malenas.

I didn't know that, thank you. It's an unfortunate name if they happen to move to an English speaking country 😂

The Biff, Chip and Kipper books were written/devised by Roderick Hunt. Why on earth didn't his parents call him Rodney or Rhodri... and why doesn't he just go by Rod?!

I presume it was a latent anger at being given his own name that caused him to project and call his characters Biff, Chip and Kipper!

Not buying that but like the idea of it😁

I know of an adult Lilith.

I was led to believe it's Welsh.

If you had triplet DDs, you could call them May, Mya and Amy. Probably not ideal if you had quads, though... poor little Yam.

Ansjovis · 12/02/2026 13:39

Both from baby name boards popular primarily with Americans in the early 2000s:

Prayer. The parents were not religious, they just liked the sound.

Brockenborough. If the baby had been a boy then I guess you could have shortened it to Brock but I don't know how you get anything out of that for a girl.

Holy crap! I can only imagine that being on a 'new baby high' makes some names sound attractive!

Oh i didn't read the post properly, apologies!

Disneigh is the worst name I’ve come across in real life.

Biff, Chip and Kipper aren't their real names though 😁
Kipper is Christopher I think.
I can't remember which twin is the girl and which one is the boy so I've forgotten what Biff and Chip's real names are.

Is that child Scottish - and do they have an English cousin called Doesnt?!

BV are unfortunate initials 😬

I taught a boy called BJ.

TVwontwork · 12/02/2026 13:43

Stetson and Tuppence.
Also Ariella, which to some won’t be that bad, it just reminded me of areola.
