Which unusual or old fashioned boy names would you use if you were given free rein and no negative judgement was allowed? (I’ll make another thread for girls names)

I love Tycho and Darwin.

Not necessarily brave, but I liked Lorcan. However, a) although my sons are half-Irish, we live in the UK, and b) their dad went to school with a Lorcan, who was, by all accounts, a wanker. On both counts, it was vetoed.

Tycho
Thorlac
Diggory

I've come across boys called Tycho and Diggory, but never a Thorlac

Squarestones · 07/11/2025 20:48

Aneurin - not because it's a massively unusual name but because I'm neither Welsh nor live in Wales so it would have been a bold choice. I love it and also Nye, which would have gone excellently with our surname.

Baninarama · 07/11/2025 20:50

Also - Denholm, which I nearly chose but then realised people where I lived would probably pronounce it Denim.

Also Banquo. I mean I know he dies and everything but it's a nice name, I prefer it to Romeo, Ophelia etc. Tybalt also good.
