All lovely, so it depends on your second name and how it sounds out loud with it. Good luck xx

Lillian is the nicest there imo

Overthebow · 14/08/2025 11:36

I like Rosa, Ruby and Romilly out of that list.

DiscoBob · 14/08/2025 11:38

I love Ruby. The others are all Ok.

ginasevern · 14/08/2025 11:38

Thanks. You love all, none you don't? We must have the same taste!

I like Ruby, Nell, Romilly and Elowen.

Isla, Rosa, Rosalind and Lillian are ok.

The rest are a big no from me.

Moreteaandchocolate · 14/08/2025 11:51

Isla - lovely if you don’t mind the popularity
Alma - quite nice. A tiny bit fuddy duddy maybe?
Rosa - classy, classic (maybe a tiny bit bland compared to some of your ideas?)
Ruby - love this - full of feisty charm
Nell - I like this - simple, classy, underused and pretty
Rosalind - a bit dated
Romilly - a bit trendy but I like it anyway and it has brilliant nn options
Ocean - too hippy for me
Nelly - prefer Nell with Nelly as a nn
Elowen - lovely (could she become another Ellie though?)
Teigan - a bit dated and less classy your other ideas
Karenza - not keen - Karen with “za” on the end
Demelza - a bit dated / witchy to me
Lillian - ok, a bit dated to me (prefer Lily, Lilia etc)
Guinevere - a bit austere sounding, prefer Genevieve

I’d pick Rosa, Ruby or Nell. (Or Isla if it wasn’t so popular atm).

rainbowstardrops · 14/08/2025 12:06

I like Ruby, Ocean and Lillian. Maybe Isla. Not so keen on the others.

rainbowstardrops · 14/08/2025 12:07

Oh I quite like Romilly too

Elephantangel1991 · 14/08/2025 12:08

Rosalind is beautiful! I don't like Roz or Rosie though which might be potential shortenings. Not sure if that would push it into the middle name category for me - as a full name it's gorgeous.

My second choice would be Lillian although I prefer the spelling Lilian.

Of the others I'd consider Rosa or Karenza. (I've seen it spelt Carenza as well I think, prefer that spelling.)

RuthW · 14/08/2025 12:10

Isla far too popular for my
liking
Alma a perfectly good name but not to my taste
Rosa lovely
Ruby again too popular
Nell half a name
Rosalind as above - perfectly good name
Romilly ok
Ocean just no
Nelly same as Nl
Elowen perfectly good name
Teigan dated
Karenza perfectly good name
Demelza as above
Lillian nice
Guinevere nice

Theoldwoman · 14/08/2025 12:12

Rosa, Ruby and Lillian are all my favourites.

Radiowaawaa · 14/08/2025 12:12

Isla- lovely
Alma- nope
Rosa- my favourite
Ruby- but dull
Nell- I like it
Rosalind- no
Romilly- no
Ocean- awful
Nelly- not sure
Elowen- not keen
Teigan- awful
Karenza- like
Demelza- love
Lillian- no
Guinevere- awful

Top three:
Rosa
Isla
Demelza

DuchessOfNarcissex · 14/08/2025 12:30

Isla - overused. Will probably not date well. Lila also popular
Alma - wasn't it a battle in the Crimean War?
Rosa - ok
Ruby - too popular for dogs here
Nell - great
Rosalind - beautiful
Romilly - rough part of Stockport
Ocean - awful
Nelly - not on your nelly
Elowen - LON. Will get mispronounced
Teigan - tea gun?
Karenza - too frilly
Demelza - too telly
Lillian - one of me nan's pals
Guinevere - might grow on me. Jennifer is nicer

Frogs88 · 14/08/2025 12:40

Elowen is my favourite. I also like Isla, Rosa and Lillian but they are all very popular.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 14/08/2025 12:42

Hard no to Ocean and Teigan.

I agree with the nicknames for Rosalind

I love this take. I didn't know that about Romilly! If anything I thought it may be a bit too posh! Alma was a battle but is also the Latin for soul. And is Spanish and Portuguese for the word soul. It's also a name.
I see what you mean about elowen

OP posts:
DuchessOfNarcissex · 14/08/2025 13:35

The place in Stockport is actually Romiley and it's not that rough, but there are nicer areas. Romilly is a surname and place name (which according to MN is not a good thing).

Alma around here is a pub in a road named after the battle. I also think of Alma Sedgwick (Corrie) and alma mater.

I like Ros as a nn for Rosalind. I know a really nice Ros, which I think is short for Rosalind, and a Rose, which is short for Rosalind.

Elowen is el-OH-wen, but will get said as EL-oh-wen/LON. It will also get misspelt as Ellowen/Ellowyn/Elowyn.
It will end up being yet another Ellie. I guess you could call her Nell if you like.

Why? I don't know anybody's middle names. Let alone hear them said "out loud" with their first names. Who does that?

OP, the one that stands out for me is Demelza - is she a character in Poldark?

Teigen seems American.

MiddleAgedDread · 14/08/2025 13:40

Isla - nice but popular
Alma - a bit too old lady IMO
Rosa - ok
Ruby - ok
Nell - needs to be a nickname from something else
Rosalind - dated and not in a trendy way
Romilly - a suburb of Stockport
Ocean - hideous
Nelly - the elephant
Elowen - nice, a bit different but not too different
Teigan - awful
Karenza - have you made this up? I don't understand how you'd pick Isla and then this?!?
Demelza - ridiculous
Lillian - ok, a bit old lady and not in a trendy way
Guinevere - nah

THISnewbeginning · 14/08/2025 13:44

Isla - pretty
Alma - reminds me of an animal
Rosa - cute
Ruby - overused
Nell - love
Rosalind - no boring librarian name
Romilly - Stockport
Ocean - hippy
Nelly - no
Elowen - awful
Teigan - also awful
Karenza - nope
Demelza - nope
Lillian - grandma not in a good way
Guinevere - awful

Best on your list is Nell

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 14/08/2025 13:45

Isla - nice but very popular. That’s for a reason but would put me off.
Alma - ok. I don’t feel anything strongly about this name.
Rosa - lovely but fairly popular.
Ruby - a bit wet to me
Nell - a nickname so I’d want a full name
Rosalind - don’t like this at all
Romilly - don’t like this
Ocean - nope! A bit airy fairy.
Nelly - the elephant packed her trunk…
Elowen - is this a name? I’ve not heard it. It sounds ok but will get lots of questions I feel.
Teigan - Tee-g’n or tie-g’n? Don’t like either.
Karenza - no don’t like this
Demelza - don’t like
Lillian - a bit old fashioned for me. Prefer Lilia.
Guinevere - nope.

I would choose Rosa from your list.
