Eleanor nn Nell is my favourite. She can be Nell when little but she has the option of the grown up “Eleanor” if she prefers it when she’s older.

(I’ve a similar situation with my name - I’ve always used the shortened version since I was little but it’s nice to have the option when I want to be super professional or posh!)

Firsttimebabymummy · 14/08/2025 13:49

Isla- Nice but too popular for me to use personally (may not bother you!)
Alma- no
Rosa- really like, classic
Ruby - I know lots of dogs called Ruby..
Nell- no
Rosalind- really like, classic
Romilly- sounds trendy, not keen
Ocean- no.
Nelly- the elephant? No.
Elowen- perfectly nice name but prefer some of your others
Teigan- no
Karenza- perfectly nice name but prefer some of your others
Demelza- no
Lillian- love, my favourite from your list
Guinevere- perfectly nice name but prefer some of your others

In order my favourites are Lillian, Rosalind and Rosa.

Alma makes me think of an independent, strong girl so I would go with that.

Isla, Ruby, Ocean, Nell make me think of tv reality "stars".

Lillian and Guinivere of old ladies.

Romilly, Teigan, Karenza, Elowen, Demelza are just weird.

No opinion on Rosa and Rosalind.

You said be honest so hope I haven't offended you.

Cakeandcheeseforever · 14/08/2025 13:57

Are you in the South West with those choices?

I love Elowen but are you pronouncing it El-Owen or El-Ohen? I think the Cornish say it the second way

Elowen and Lillian are my favourites from your list

TheaBrandt1 · 14/08/2025 14:02

Demelza and Guinvere are too bold and risky. It’s not fair. It’s not you being “brave”
she has to live with it. She might carry it off but she really might not and if the latter at 13 will hate you. I have a low key studious dd who would hate a wacky name and a glamorous dd2 who would rock it. You don’t know what she will be so it’s too risky.

Isla and Lily names are ok but really boring and fyi totally overused. All the others are good choices .

MrsT36 · 14/08/2025 14:04

I have an Alma so that’s 100% my vote, side note I’d go a Ida for another girl 💕

Sosososososo · 14/08/2025 14:05

Charabanc · 14/08/2025 13:39

Why? I don't know anybody's middle names. Let alone hear them said "out loud" with their first names. Who does that?

OP, the one that stands out for me is Demelza - is she a character in Poldark?

Teigen seems American.

Yes she was although I haven't seen/read it! You like Demelza out of them all? I'm not sure but I think teigan is Irish,I like that it's not frilly but not my favourite one.

Not at all!

I like Isla , Rosa and Ruby. But I’m old. If that was the name of a new granddaughter I’d be very happy with one of those. The worst name is Ocean in my opinion.

Edited to add, I would never comment or give an opinion less specifically asked regarding the name of one of my grandchildren.

StrongandNorthern · 14/08/2025 14:11

Slightly change Romilly to Romy, and Lilian to Lilla?

AdaColeman · 14/08/2025 14:13

I like Ruby, Rosalind and Romilly.

I'm not keen on the other names on your list, some are more like nicknames or will inevitably be shortened to nicknames (eg Nell or Lillian). Some (eg Isla) are too popular.
My least favourites are Teigan Elowen and Ocean.

KawasakiBabe · 14/08/2025 14:17

Like
Isla
Rosa
Ruby
Nell
Romilly

Don’t like
Alma
Rosalind
Ocean
Nelly
Elowen
Teigan
Karenza
Demelza
Lillian
Guinevere

Does it matter what I think though?

CrispieCake · 14/08/2025 14:19

I like:

Isla
Rosa
Nell/Nelly
Rosalind
Romilly
Elowen

I don't like but think are fine (i.e. they're nice names just not my personal preference):

Alma
Ruby
Lillian
Teigan
Guinevere (unless you're Welsh, in which case it might be spelt differently)

I think Ocean, Karenza and Demelza are a bit 'out there', personally, in each case for different reasons. I actually quite like Demelza but it's a bit like Ramona, Whitney and Jolene in vibe, and I wouldn't use it.

Cinai · 14/08/2025 14:21

I wouldn’t go for Demelza, it always reminds me of dementia.
Karenza sounds like something musical.
Teigan looks like a misspelling.
Ocean is a bit out there / try hard.

The other names are fine. I particularly like Nell, Ruby and Romilly, they are a bit unusual but lovely.

Enko · 14/08/2025 14:28

Isla - too popular for my wanting to use it
Alma - too popular for my wanting to use it (aware this popularity is from.scandinavia)
Rosa - pretty enough but doesnt excite me
Ruby - dont like it at all
Nell - not my style
Rosalind - pretty I've known 2 both lovely girls likely to be called Rosie do you mind that
Romilly - not my style
Ocean - not my style but I do like it
Nelly - dislike
Elowen - pretty 3rd favourite for me
Teigan - not my style
Karenza - I love this name my favourite on your list was our girlsname for ds
Demelza - not my style
Lillian - Pretty my 2nd favourite
Guinevere - Its ok but not something that excites me

DuchessOfNarcissex · 14/08/2025 14:42

@CrispieCake , it's quite different in Welsh - Gwenhwyfar. I think the Cornish and Breton is Gweniver.
The Welsh version got shortened to Gaenor (Gaynor).
I don't think those names have been registered for a while, but I know women with the names.

Grellow · 14/08/2025 14:54

Love Rosa and Guinevere. I know an Alma with Spanish parents.

DownWhichOfLate · 14/08/2025 15:01

Apart from Lillian they all seem quite Romany Gypsy or Cornish!

Sosososososo · 14/08/2025 15:08

jolies1 · 14/08/2025 13:49

I know what you mean but I just don't love any long versions of Nell 🤷‍♀️

bluechameleon · 14/08/2025 15:12

Isla - nice, other names on your list seem more special
Alma - not keen
Rosa - really like
Ruby - nice, much more common than most of your other choices though (I went for top 20 both times so that is no criticism!)
Nell- I like it as a shortening for Eleanor or Helen/Helena, it doesn't feel like a complete name to me on its own
Rosalind- like this a lot
Romilly- like a lot
Ocean - not for me at all
Nelly - definitely not a complete name for me. Also elephants.
Elowen- love this one, it's my favourite. Pretty, unusual but not weird.
Teigan- don't like
Karenza- I think this is a lovely name. This isn't the spelling I'm most familiar with - the only one I knew was Kerensa
Demelza - don't like
Lillian - pretty
Guinevere - I love this. I don't think I'd be brave enough but I think it is a beautiful, strong name

ClunkyPigeon · 14/08/2025 15:12

Isla - very, very popular. Probably 2 to each nursery class! Don’t like it much either.
Alma - alright
Rosa - classic but boring
Ruby - alright
Nell - I like this but maybe needs a long name?
Rosalind - frilly
Romilly - frilly
Ocean - ridiculous
Nelly - the elephant
Elowen - I love this
Teigan - dated
Karenza - are you Cornish?
Demelza - see above
Lillian - frilly
Guinevere - come on now

autienotnaughty · 14/08/2025 15:12
