Isla - pretty, but over used
Alma - pub landlady
Rosa - pretty
Ruby - East End pub landlady, with a bad fag habit
Nell - sweet, prefer as a nn for Eleanor
Rosalind - Shakespeare, like it, do not like Roz
Romilly - pretty, but don't like Romy
Ocean - ????????
Nelly - The Elephant
Elowen - pretty, would she be Ellie? Which is a bit dull
Teigan - Home & Away vibes
Karenza - lovely, Cornish
Demelza - lovely, different, as long as you are happy with the Poldark angle
Lillian - wet
Guinevere - give her a sword, quite a name to live up to!

deeahgwitch · 14/08/2025 15:29

I only like Romilly.
sorry @Sosososososo

selondon28 · 14/08/2025 15:32

Nell and Nelly seem like shortened versions of a name to me. My friend is called Eleanor and her family call her Nell and Nelly. I also don’t like either anyway.
I love the name Romilly, Rosalind and Lillian also nice. And I like Elowen, I only heard it of it as a name recently and like it a lot. Don’t like Demzela.

RobertJohnsonsShoes · 14/08/2025 15:33

I love Nell, like round the twist

WaltzingWaters · 14/08/2025 15:38

Isla - lovely but very popular
Alma - nice
Rosa - nice
Ruby - nice
Nell - nice
Rosalind - nice
Romilly - nice
Ocean - nice
Nelly - the elephant
Elowen - love this. Was on my list but very popular here in Cornwall.
Teigan - nah
Karenza & Demelza - both sound very “travellers” to me.
Lillian - not a fan
Guinevere - nah

Iocainepowder · 14/08/2025 15:41

All fine apart from Karenza and Ocean.

Elowen
Lillian

Don't like:
Nelly (the elephant?)
Romilly
Ocean
Teigan
Karenza
Demelza
Guinevere

I second this

ChristmasMiracleBaby · 14/08/2025 15:57

Not a fan of most of these sorry.

I like Ruby, prefer Eleanor to Elowen but Elowen is ok.

Alexandrine · 14/08/2025 16:30

Isla - too trendy, will likely date
Alma - too old lady for me still
Rosa - pretty, though I prefer simple, classic Rose
Ruby - too trendy, will likely date
Nell - beautiful and simple
Rosalind - a lovely, underused Shakespearean classic
Romilly - pretty, surprised it’s not more popular
Ocean - bit hippy but pretty when pronounced the French way
Nelly - horrible (that Y makes all the difference)
Elowen - lovely when pronounced the Cornish way
Teigan - horrible
Karenza- nice enough although I prefer the Kerenza spelling
Demelza - no, too demented sounding
Lillian - one of the nicer retro names
Guinevere - brave but so stunningly beautiful

pushthebuttonnn · 14/08/2025 16:34

I love Ruby & Rosa 💕

Zoomzone · 14/08/2025 16:43

Isla - very pretty but too popular
Alma - ugly
Rosa - twee
Ruby -ok
Nell- dull
Rosalind - twee
Romilly -like
Ocean - no
Nelly - awful
Elowen - lovely
Teigan -ok
Karenza - no
Demelza -lovely
Lillian - no
Guinevere -no

timoteigirl · 14/08/2025 16:58

Isla - okay
Alma - makes me think of Alma-Ata
Rosa - ok
Ruby - ok
Nell - ok but too weak and sweet, suitable name for a dog
Rosalind - I like this type of names like Rosamund etc.
Romilly - no, doesn't sound nice
Ocean - I would find this more acceptable if you live in USA or Australia sorry
Nelly - little house in the prairie name
Elowen - I think there are nicer names that end in -wen
Teigan - meh
Karenza - not heard before. OK. Could grow on me
Demelza - Ross Poldark. Yes
Lillian - no to me it is in the same group as Bertha etc.
Guinevere - yes interesting like Morgan

Slightyamusedandsilly · 14/08/2025 17:00

Sorry but I really dislike most of them. A bit over fancy or over busy. I DO however like Elowen. Pretty and not too much.

SerendipityDiamond · 14/08/2025 17:02

I like Rosa, Ruby and Nell.

marshmallowfinder · 14/08/2025 17:37

Romilly is lovely. Dislike Demelza, Elowen (L.O.N.) Alma and Isla. Others are OK.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 14/08/2025 18:03

@marshmallowfinder , Elowen is more like L. Owen, not L.O.N.

LivingTheDreamish · 14/08/2025 22:01

Isla - beautiful name, shame it is so popular but I would still use it
Alma - nice, slight old lady vibes
Rosa - prefer the classic Rose as standalone name but nice as nn for Rosalind
Ruby - nice enough name, a bit over-used so I would avoid
Nell - love as shortening for Eleanor, warm and sweet
Rosalind - elegant and classic
Romilly - prefer Romy but it's a bit insubstantial
Ocean - hippy vibes
Nelly - elephant vibes - Nell is so much nicer
Elowen - this is okay but don't love it, Ellie as a shortening is boring
Teigan - too American
Karenza - sounds made up
Demelza - too witchy
Lillian - a bit wet
Guinevere - a bit medieval

I would pick Eleanor (Nell) or Rosalind (Rose or Rosa).

miniaturepixieonacid · 14/08/2025 23:51

Isla - Like it. Pretty. Lots of them around but popular names are popular for a reason. Fits all vibes and demographics due to being so popular, I would say.
Alma - not keen. Sounds very old lady to me. But I love Alba so not sure why I don't like Alma.
Rosa - like it. Classy and elegant. Possibly edgy and political in the right area with the right parents.
Ruby - It's ok. I find it a bit 'meh' but it's a pretty name and popular without being ridiculously so.
Nell - I don't like this. I think it's the one syllable thing. It sounds a bit harsh and potentially boring to me. Helena and Eleanor, I like.
Rosalind - Quite like it but prefer the endings of other Rose names.
Romilly - Love it. Sounds quie contemporary and still slightly quirky to me. Love Romy as a nn.
Ocean - quite like it. Definitely an alternative, hippy vibe (although the only Ocean I've ever met had a brother called William so maybe not!😆)
Nelly - Really don't like this. Worse than Nell even though it has another syllable. I don't think it's a rational dislike.
Elowen - Love it. Very pretty. I'd try very hard to keen the full name and not let it become Ellie or Elle. I'd aim for Lowen if people insisting on shortening it.
Teigan - Really like it. Fresh and unusual without being unheard of.
Karenza - Really like it. Only ever met one. Alternative hippy vibes but also strong and independent.
Demelza - like it but much prefer Karenza.
Lillian - not keen. I find it a bit harsh sounding.
Guinevere - quite like it but I think it's just too fancy and Arthurian/Medieval queen like. Would definitely need a short version but I don't like Gwyn or Vera.

@LivingTheDreamish Karenza isn’t made up, it means love in Cornish

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 15/08/2025 14:19

Don’t like Ocean, because it is too confusable with the boys’s name Oisin/Osian.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 15/08/2025 14:20

Cornish Dictionary | says love in Cornish is kerensa.

As a name, it is modern.

Sosososososo · 14/08/2025 15:08

I know what you mean but I just don't love any long versions of Nell 🤷‍♀️

Fenella? Prunella? Danielle/a? Antonella? Petronella? Anabel? Janelle? Helena?

Some of those are quite hard to live with! I do love Fenella though, but I have a soft spot for Jilly Cooper style names.

MCF86 · 15/08/2025 16:56

Isla - I have always liked it, but depends if you mind how common it has become

Alma - Love this but didn't immediately because it was still in "old lady" camp when I met the child I know. She's a sweetheart, and people definitely do change my opinion on their names!

Rosa - Wouldn't choose it myself but wouldn't make a face about it

Ruby - Don't like it... again because of ones I've known though. They all have parents I can't help but judge (secretly of course)

Nell - I really like it. I prefer long versions of names as a rule even if never used, but that's just personal preference!

Rosalind - Don't like it, haven't met anyone to take it out of old lady camp yet though

Romilly - I don't know it as a name and would have assumed boy! But that's my ignorance and I think they'd become Romi which I think is quite cool.

Ocean - No.

Nelly - the elephant?

Elowen - pretty but agree it could be frustrating re spelling/pronunciation

Teigan - I think it's ugly

Karenza - I don't like either if these, not sure if it is the "za" endings that put me off
Demelza

Lillian - Horrible old lady I knew as a kid, I cannot give it a fair trial

Guinevere - I don't immediately love it but could definitely grow on me

I know one that's a Penelope. Her parents thought she'd be Penny but everyone was calling her Nell within weeks - parents included!

That looks much nicer I think!
