I’ve always loved the name Thomas but is it too much with our surname?

I think that works well 😊

Guy I knew at school called Robert Robertson was called Bob or Bobert Bobertson...😄

Edited

😮Bobert Bobertson is my fake email contact name for marketing stuff!

NeonGiraffe · 19/06/2025 22:14

Do it. It’s really distinctive.

ethelredonagoodday · 19/06/2025 22:24

I went to school in the early 80s, with a kid called exactly this. It still makes me laugh now and gets brought up when people are talking about odd names. Don’t do it OP.

pambeesleyhalpert · 19/06/2025 22:54

Thomas really isn’t a nice enough name to warrant using it twice

mathanxiety · 19/06/2025 23:53

There's a song that goes 'My name is John Johnson amd I'm from Wisconsin'.

Thomas Thompson is a comedy name, OP. Don't do it.

What about Dominic? Dom Thompson still too much?

It’s not ideal

Daniel / Dan is better

Stinkbomb · 19/06/2025 23:58

Yes.
but but there is an Edward Woodward who is famous, and many others who have similar sounding names.
i personally wouldn’t got there, but his nickname will very likely be Tom-Tom or similar

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 20/06/2025 05:56

It's cool. Sounds like a name from a storybook.

You have Tom Thomas in fireman Sam

DanDin · 21/06/2025 13:56

@LiquoriceAllsorts2 ,he's Welsh, and names like William Williams, David Davies, John Jones, and Robert Roberts are acceptable in Wales.

And don't forget Norman! At least he's matured a lot now and found a more positive and successful outlet in his life.

We are naming our little one Hywl (pronounced Howl) and Rhiannon (nickname: Nonny) of it's a girl.

Mitara · 12/07/2025 23:53

Its memorable!

Goldencats · 13/07/2025 09:43

Thomas Thompson is sort of okay but most Thomases I know go by Tom, and then Tom Thompson is not a great sound with the repetition. I’d argue it’s a memorable name though, not terrible!

Orphlids · 13/07/2025 10:26

I really like it. I’m surprised by the negative responses here. I think it sounds charismatic, like the name of a rather dashing young man from the 40s. But I grew up in a country where men often had repeating names - think Sven Sveningsson etc.

SpikeGilesSandwich · 13/07/2025 12:55

We had a Stephen Stephenson at primary school and I always privately thought it was weird but no one else seemed to and he didn’t get teased about it.
