everly · 06/06/2025 22:51

As the title states, please choose which two you like best for twins.

Margot
Audrey
Sylvie

Just to clarify, I am not looking for any other name suggestions.

Thanks

Margot and Sylvie.

Really dislike Audrey.

ButterBites · 08/06/2025 17:57

I know two girls called Margot and Audrey, with a sister called Iris too. Very lovely names so M & A get my vote.

Sylvie sounds like an old lady’s name to me.

PiggieWig · 08/06/2025 18:00

Margot and Sylvie - Audrey a little too nana for my taste.

Audrey and Margot

Both ballerinas - Margot Fonteyn and Audrey Nicholls.

user1492757084 · 09/06/2025 13:54

But there is French ballet dancer - Sylvie Guillem.

So, all three are dancers.

Margot & Sylvie

Margot and Audrey

Please don’t put Margot and Audrey together. It would be like naming your kids Granville and Delboy or Blackadder and Mr Bean.

Bournetilly · 09/06/2025 14:06

Margot and Sylvie are lovely. I don’t like Audrey.

DiaryofWimpy · 09/06/2025 14:09

I’m not sure why you say this. Both are coming back in fashion and I actually like them better together as twins than alone if I’m honest. They have that ladylike vibe and sort of reinforce that in each other.

Names do go in cycles. I was aghast when I first encountered a baby Alfie, because it was an old man’s name when I was growing up. Now I can’t go to the park without tripping over half a dozen.

Im guessing she's referring to the Penelope Keith characters.
I disagree that it's an issue though.

For a start they are both normal names that are not just associated with those tv shows unlike her examples and secondly, I doubt many people under the age of 25 will have even heard of those sitcoms!

Margot and Sylvie

WildCherryBlossom · 09/06/2025 19:27

Oh that’s funny. I first said Margot and Sylvie but now you point out the Penelope Keith reference I think Margot and Audrey would be a fabulous combination! As you say, very few younger people would spot it, but it’s a rather lovely subtle link for twin names.

PopThatBench · 09/06/2025 19:28

Wasn’t it Margot and Barbara?

Oh I’ve twigged: To the M. B.!

You’re right that fewer people will twig as time goes on but even on this thread lots have pointed it out. Given how many thousands of names there are out there, why would you do this?

Not sure what @Calliopespa means- I’m not talking about the names being old fashioned (which they’re not).

Yes I’ve now figured out what you meant. I wasn’t thinking of both programmes.

idonethisthing · 09/06/2025 21:21

I have a 9 year old Sylvie! Margot and Audrey were also on my shortlist of ten names, so we have similar tastes. I kind of still love Audrey so much, but DP wasn’t as keen.

Just because it's been pointed out it doesn't mean it's necessarily a negative. You ask why would I do that? Quite simply, because I don't think it's an issue and I love the names!

Cool, that’s a good reason. It’s good to be aware but if you’re aware and it doesn’t bother you, that’s grand.

Agree that your children’s contemporaries won’t think anything of it.

Strokethefurrywall · 09/06/2025 21:53

Awwww another vote for Audrey and Sylvie!!!

Yes I think they work well together.

I’ve watched both programmes as a child and I couldn’t figure the link for some time.

ColdTofuSandwich · 09/06/2025 22:04

Either with Margot

I know i wasn't asking for suggestions but what were some of the others you had on your list?
