We’re looking for actually unique girls names for dd2 please (first dd has very unique name so need something to match!). Keep googling lists and they come up with names like “Tracey”, “Chloe” which are lovely names but I wouldn’t say unique! Please help.

Meryon, Clarissa and Tamzin…

Tamar’s interesing-I actually know two, both named after the river, not the biblical person!

My name is actually 'unique' as in made up, so there is only one of me. It was massively annoying when I 'was a kid. No 'name' mugs/ keyrings etc' No one can spell it. There is no need to go out of your way for a 'unique' name. Just something pretty and unusual ( I think when you say unique you mean unusual, because if you are asking for names on a website, if someone else comes up with an idea, it means its not unique) . I like my name, but even I can see that it could have been spelt in a nicer way that flows better. Popular names are popular for a reason. They are tried and tested.

@mathanxiety , You understood perfectly well what she was looking for.
I did not.

My great grandmother was called Zillah, and I'm a little bit sad I never had a daughter. I'd have named her that in a second!

Thighdentitycrisis · 01/04/2025 19:32

Even if you made something up there would be no way of knowing if it was truly unique.

e.g. You choose Stargazey, or Wonderwall, it’s unlikely to be on any online lists.

Just call her Mary and be done with it.

Darerca - supposedly St Patrick’s sister.
she is the patron saint of an island in south west Ireland called Valentia Island.
A truly beautiful part of Ireland.

Some great names here. We were strongly considering Celandine for our daughter. Kind of wish we'd gone for it now, if only as a middle name.

HeCharters · 01/04/2025 20:31

Manon is very popular in Wales, but isn't currently popular for babies. Ceredwen should be Ceridwen.

Overtheatlantic · 01/04/2025 20:34

I know a little Xiomara. Love it.

Salome, Tamar, Carmel, Cherith and Dorcas are underused biblical names.

You’d really need to hate a child to call them Dorcas…

I like it, and I know one. Her parents are lovely.

Giulia8 · 01/04/2025 21:08

Agree with those who said your other DC’s name would be helpful as it’s like stabbing in the dark otherwise.

There are different flavours of ‘unique’ (which I know you really mean as very uncommon).

Unique for some is made up like… Wrenella. Unique for others is something dated but not in a granny chic way like… Aphra. And to others it’s something some would label as ‘chavvy’ (hate the term) like Tiger-Lily or Peony-Lila. Etc etc.

Zeitumschaltung · 01/04/2025 21:10

I like Story. I also know a middle-aged lady called Sonnet.

Otherwise:
Sheherazade
Queralt
Iseult
Ismay
Guinevere

singingirl · 01/04/2025 21:11

There are some pretty historical names out there which are unusual. like:
Verity
Adela
Jessamine
Honor

Echobelly · 01/04/2025 21:19

Yvaine
Bathsheba
Ethna

Loads of Carmels where I am (Ireland) though they’re mostly middle-aged now.

redsun246 · 01/04/2025 21:45

I think for it to be unique you've got to make it up yourself.
