We’re looking for actually unique girls names for dd2 please (first dd has very unique name so need something to match!). Keep googling lists and they come up with names like “Tracey”, “Chloe” which are lovely names but I wouldn’t say unique! Please help.

@Boligrafo , Israel.

Is it common?

As I said up the thread, Tamar in Genesis, having been married to two brothers without having a son, disguises herself as a prostitute and has sex with her FIL to secure a child of the right lineage. It’s not the most obviously appealing story…

I’m sure there were Tamar’s before and after the biblical Tamar who managed not to sleep with their father in law, I know a Patrica she’s not a stripper and a Roxanne who’s not a prostitue!! If the name is beautiful the rest is irrelevant.

CurlewKate · 01/04/2025 17:18

Benet, Aphra and Saethryd

CurlewKate · 01/04/2025 17:19

@BoligrafoYou’ve actually got one out of the three!

Greenfingers37 · 01/04/2025 17:36

Our new granddaughter is called Bloom. It’s growing on me (pardon the pun!).

@DillanegasmsIt’s not Storm. I know a couple of them.

DuskyPink1984 · 01/04/2025 17:47

Not truly unique but off the top of my head:

Posie, Tulip, Honeysuckle, Blossom, Kitty

pearbottomjeans · 01/04/2025 17:52

For ‘truly unique’ you’ll need to make something up. Like that instagrammer who has Oriavella and Renaelia. Quite the mouthful but she seems utterly lovely and fair play for going for it.

Made up but may exist somewhere!:
Fylie
Araila
Maxelle
Octania
Savella
Ettalie (actually love that 😆)
Havenna
Javie

Non-unique, actual names of women I know, but only know one of:

Jera
Oenone (eh-no-nee, love it)
Kyrie (Kerry-ay)
Blue

Unique means only one of, so you'll need to make up a name.

Something can't be 'very unique'.

Oh come on.

She wants a very unusual name.

This isn't Pedants' Corner...

@mathanxiety , there's no such thing as very unique. OP uses 'truly unique', 'actually unique' and 'very unique', yet we don't know if she means a name unlike any other, a name that is highly unusual, or a name that is outside the top 100.

OMGtimes3 · 01/04/2025 18:16

How about Qetsiyah (alternative spelling Ketzia)? Apparently it’s a Hebrew name and means cinnamon.

I once knew a girl with that name and she was extremely bright, creative and sassy. Her lovely sister is Danaka = morning star.

My bother’s step children had genuinely unique names. One a number, one a herb and one a meteorological condition. They all hated them and one by one refused to go to Secondary school until they were allowed to change them. They are adults now and don’t regret their decision. Please don’t deny your children to be anonymous if they want to be.

Seven, Basil (or Rosemary) and Storm? Not really out there 😂

Or maybe Ninety-three, Coriander and Tornado. hmmmm yes I see the issue there lol.

Ooh I knew one once, spelled Qudsia

Zamfira. I wanted to call DD this but DH vetoed it.

There were eight babies born with DD2’s name the year she was born. It’s everywhere now, and is THE Mumsnet marmite name. She was named after my great aunt who disappeared during WW2.
