Thoughts on the name Boden (nick names Bode or Bodie)

And middle names (we like more classical middle names) or ideally a fire and earth name

2 middle names needed!

I think that did come from olden times though. If you think about it surnames had to come from somewhere. Nurse is a surname, though I haven't seen Doctor as one. I came across a Mr Snowball once, god knows how that name came about 😁

I vaguely knew a very junior army officer who was always addressed as "Snowball". When I asked why they called him that, it was "Because that's his name". It was his surname.

Boden Oliver sounds like the unfortunate love child of Johnnie and Jamie...

Boden Oliver Bonas perhaps?

Hi! Yes I'm aware of the shop name. Thanks for your input :) I find that quite rude.

Why do you find it rude that people are advising you not to name your child after a clothes shop?

I agree - terrible idea for a name.

ButIToldYouSoooo · 15/02/2025 21:45

I get that OP thinks people are being rude, but this is what her child will likely face with that name in the UK.

Bodhi/Bodie/Body would probably be the better way to go tbh

GoodVibesHere · 15/02/2025 21:52

Boden Fatface

This. Poor kid!

Pipsquiggle · 15/02/2025 21:58

A hard no on Boden. For the same reason as everyone else has said for 11 pages

FoolishHips · 15/02/2025 22:04

Barold and Nedmund.

LynetteScavo · 15/02/2025 22:04

I think everyone should stop being so mean.

If a baby can be called Ryan or Cooper, or Mercedes they can be called Boden.

You do know that Ryan and Mercedes are actually names? And IMO kids shouldn’t be called Cooper - it’s a surname.

It's a case of 'cruel to be kind'.....hopefully the thread will save the poor child from the humiliation of being named after a clothing brand which receives plenty of ridicule.

What’s a “fire and hearth” name?

Dunno, but every other name seems to be Sonny and Teddy, so I'm guessing one of those.

Stepfordian · 15/02/2025 22:33

It’s not the worst name I’ve heard, but it’s definitely an eye-roller. I’m not even sure what type of name it is, is it a surname, or after the brand (ie Armani or Chanel) or an invented name because you like the hard ‘d’ sound in the middle? I wouldn’t even know what to suggest as an alternative it’s so out-there.

wombpaloumbpa · 15/02/2025 22:36

Wow everyone is being so rude.

Wow everyone is being so rude.

To be fair, I think it's a joke, no one's going to call their child after a clothing company!

wombpaloumbpa · 15/02/2025 22:41

Where I live we don't have a Boden and no one is middle class to shop there anyway. I think it's objectively a cute name and I like the shortened Bo or Bodie.

Boden James Lawrence
Boden Alexander William
Boden Arthur Oliver

🤷‍♀️

Or someone who makes barrels.

All fad name's I know Bowie was popular after David Bowies death.

LynetteScavo · 15/02/2025 22:42

@StormingNorman Ryan and Cooper are surnames, Mercedes is a girls name. The issue comes when a surname is used by a company and for a first name. No one calls their child Sainsbury or Boden for a reason.

If a surname has been used as a first name (like Mason) and then become a large brand (like Ryan Air) there is an issue, and the name goes out of favour.

I still maintain Boden Clarence Sayle is the perfect combination.

Notsuchafattynow · 15/02/2025 22:42

What else is Ryan apart from a boys name?

Notsuchafattynow · 15/02/2025 22:43

Just seen pp. Ryan Air. Get it now.

Myfluffyblanket · 15/02/2025 22:46

Are you in Wales, by any chance ?
Boden Haf Preis sounds good.
