Middle names for boden?

Thoughts on the name Boden (nick names Bode or Bodie)

And middle names (we like more classical middle names) or ideally a fire and earth name

2 middle names needed!

Johnny

I do think you need to go with Bodie (Australian?) or you are forever going to be hearing about the clothing store.

However, I’ve heard the name Jonathan pop up a few times in the past weeks and I feel it’s ready to make a comeback.

Maybe something classical or retro for a second middle name. There is an Amadeus in one of the groups we go to.

Surnames that are occupations are particularly weird - Carter, Archer, Fletcher, Hawker, Sawyer etc. Why not call your baby Doctor, Ironmonger, Cordwainer or Stevedore? 😃

I think that did come from olden times though. If you think about it surnames had to come from somewhere. Nurse is a surname, though I haven't seen Doctor as one. I came across a Mr Snowball once, god knows how that name came about 😁

This is just a joke.

I suspect so.

Hi! Yes I'm aware of the shop name. Thanks for your input :) I find that quite rude.

Its what will be said behind your back if you give this name to a child

It's heavily associated with the extreme right in Germany. 'Blood and soil' nationalism is called Blut und Boden, a Nazi slogan.

Oh dear

paulhollywoodshairgel · 15/02/2025 20:09

Boden raincoat?

Hagr1d · 15/02/2025 20:10

This can't be real, surely?

Dreadful name. Do you hate your future child? Setting them up for a life time of teasing.

goneaway2 · 15/02/2025 20:16

Boden Jules?
Boden Hotchpotch?

But Zara?

More like Burtons.

It's certainly a distinctive choice.

OP…. Don’t listen to all this crap. I LOVE the name Boden! I didn’t actually know anything about the clothing line - just googled it and as someone who doesn’t want to look like a clapped out bag of potpourri that’s given up on life and in looking in any way sexy whatsoever, that would explain WHY I’ve never heard of it 😉 it’s a lovely name! People are vile. Xxx

Movinghouseatlast · 15/02/2025 20:17

You cannot do this. Really, you can't.

Zara was a name before it was a shop. Boden is a surname. But mainly known for being a shop.

MagicMagpie · 15/02/2025 20:17

Very wise to go for a “more classic” middle name, OP. I think Boden calls out for the pleasingly alliterative Balonz to follow it.

KateDelRick · 15/02/2025 20:19

Boden Bourgeois

Zanzara · 15/02/2025 20:20

Carrier?

For the German speakers among us, may I suggest Ständig?

(Not that this mother's going to go for that..)

Sorry, I wasn't clear, but I meant that occupational surnames seem a weird choice as given names. I think it's partly because I look at a lot of historical documents, so I still associate the names with the original occupations.

I did see someone share an image once of a census in the late 19th century where there was a young child named after the doctor who delivered him. The parents didn't know his first name, so they did actually name him Doctor. It was acknowledged as a bizarre occurrence though.

@armt
But Zara?
Zara is a pretty well used name, Boden isn't and it's best known as a clothing brand.

SlightlyJaded · 15/02/2025 20:26

Not remotely like Zara which is a long established name

Boden is equivalent to Bershka

You think that's rude, can you imagine what darling Boden will go through at school should the clothing retailer still be in business?

PS that was a German joke. They can happen occasionally. 😉😂
