Thoughts on Flinders for a boys name?

Any thoughts on Flinders for a boys first name?

It's an old family surname I've come across but I think it would be a unique, lovely name for my son.

Please let me know if this is too 'out there'?!

Ned Flanders

The only time I have come across the word Flinders, it meant something broken into small fragments or shards. To be honest, I can’t see it as a first name.

How about Flynn, with the nickname Flinders?

Whatsitreallylike · 08/02/2025 20:22

I don’t like it personally. I like the nickname Flynn though and that’s likely what he’ll be known as amongst his friends.

GretchenWienersHair · 08/02/2025 20:22

Horrible. Sorry.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 08/02/2025 20:22

Pretty awful, sounds so weak.

musicalfrog · 08/02/2025 20:22

Flinders street station in Melbourne.

Wrongsideofpennines · 08/02/2025 20:23

I don't like it. It makes me think of Ned Flanders too.

I know a Flint though that I think is quite nice.

musicalfrog · 08/02/2025 20:23

Flynn is a good compromise though!

Ned Flanders

Exactly what I read and assumed a spelling mistake/auto correct.
Sorry not a fan.

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 08/02/2025 20:24

Flinders Kleepers

LuluBlakey1 · 08/02/2025 20:24

Awful- fussy and old-womanish

DonttouchthatLarry · 08/02/2025 20:24

Little Polly Flinders
Sat among the cinders
Warming her pretty little toes!
Her mother came and caught her,
And whipped her little daughter,
For spoiling her nice new clothes.

GrantMitchell · 08/02/2025 20:24

To be brutally honest, it sounds like a nickname the rugby lads have made up for their mate Flynn.

Pineapplewaves · 08/02/2025 20:25

Awful - it sounds like a place name or Flanders spelt wrong. Wouldn't it get shortened to Flynn?

OMGitsnotgood · 08/02/2025 20:25

I try to keep an open mind about names but this sounds a bit 'trying too hard to be different'. I actually like 'Flynn' tho

Addeline · 08/02/2025 20:25

Anders? Or Flynn ?

So true

KilkennyCats · 08/02/2025 20:26

It’s just plain ridiculous.

Lindy2 · 08/02/2025 20:26

It's not a good first name. I thought it might have been a typo when I saw your post.

It could work as a middle name potentially.

Rummly · 08/02/2025 20:27

Flinders crispy pancakes.

It’s a no from me.

Asterales · 08/02/2025 20:28

Agree with pp who said it invokes Ned Flanders. The person himself, and all the associated characteristics.

shoopshoopdedoo · 08/02/2025 20:28

Flinders?!? No, I don’t think you should do that.

pimplebum · 08/02/2025 20:28

Sounds like a disease
mil flinders has played up again !

it’s a name you have just found out about so not sentimental

if you are ok with the raised eyebrows and a slow …. Ok.. that’s different …every time then go for it
