I'm NOT naming her after my sister!

I'm wanting to get opinions on this name vs my DSs please.

We are having a baby girl and both really like the name Pippin. We'd mostly call her Pip, and have the options of Pippy or Pips. I like a name with lots of variation options that we like.

The thing making me unsure is I have a sister called Philippa and I know that a lot of people called Pip have it shortened from Philippa. I don't want people to always be asking Pip- is she Philippa named after your DS?

However DS has always been Phil and NEVER Pip so I can't decide if that makes it a non issue?

Side note- can Pippin be taken seriously on job applications etc?

So you have a Phil and want a pippin and your sister is philippa… why don’t you, your dh, your son, your sister and any immediate family alll to the registry office and change your names to Jack? Then name baby Jack obviously. Same effect just a bit less subtle.

Piper is great! That’s your answer OP.

I think OP was saying her sister Philippa goes by “Phil”… not that she has a son called Phil.

🤣🤣🤣 please do not name a baby girl pippin it’s child abuse. Call her pippa or Piper and use pip for short. It’s also a boys name not a female name. Please remember this baby will grow into a woman and have that name all her life. Don’t subject her to bullying.

I have a niece called Piper. She is always known as Pips but Pippin would work too.

That reminds me, my friends childhood dog was one of the stunt doubles for the dog called Pippin in the 90s show Come Outside 😅

It sounds cute but I'd use it as a nickname. People will think you've named her after your sister, even if you say you haven't.
I'd think of the LOTR hobbit which isn't great.

I don't think the job application worry is a consideration. Lots of people have odd names. It doesn't matter.

People get used to odd names very quickly so you don't need to angst too much.

Pippin is a horses name.

Why would you want to call a real person something 'cute'?
I can't understand why so many seem unable to grasp the concept that this person will not be a baby, toddler or child forever, God willing.
I think sometimes people forget they are not naming a doll.

@potatocakesinprogress there were several Pippin's over the years. Most were children/grandchildren of original Pippin.
I am curious why she required a stunt double 😂

Pippin is a dog's/cat's/cuddly pet's name I'm afraid.

Pippin is the name of the dog on Come out side .

Pippin to me says:
(Male) hobbit, full name Peregrine
apple
(Female) character from Antonia Forest Kingscote school stories, full name Pomona

ok for an adult as long as she is going into TV production or similar

If you call her Pippi for short nobody will make fun of her because they will know she’s the strongest girl in the world 😊
