I can't believe how many of you are worried for Makingdo having to repeat herself. If she's okay with it, and she kind of sounds like she might just be, then surely that's that?!

hatrick, hat off to you for teaching reception! I'm secondary and couldn't handle a class full of littl'uns!

kaballie · 19/04/2008 17:29

BTW. I think Zebedee for a middle name is fab. And how is Alias pronounced? Can't be arsed to look back through 5 pages to find out!

3andnomore · 19/04/2008 17:29

well, Bubba, but that is what ya get for posting on nmaethreads

Blandmum · 19/04/2008 17:31

BubbandBump, it's just that she is purposely misspelling a name, and in a way that goes against the English language so won't actually say what she wants it to say iyswim.
Like I said time and again, it's her choice, but you see tons of these threads on here complaining that names get spelt and/or pronounced 'wrong' when actually it's being spelt/pronounced right and the person complaining is actually wrong.
There are rules to language, making up a spelling for a name and saying 'it says that' isn't that simple. It says what it says, whether you want to read it differently or not.
But makingdo has said she is happy to correct people so that's fine, I just hope her Dd is happy too.
(btw I know as a Lorraine spelled 'Lorayn')

see, I would pronounce Alias A-leye-as....well,but then, I am a thick german, me....but that is always how I thought it is pronounced.....oooops

BubbaAndBump · 19/04/2008 17:36

Thing is, there aren't many rules to the prounciation of words in the English language ~ that's the joy of our beautiful language. I could give many examples, but I won't bore you...

kaballie · 19/04/2008 17:38

alius is great, ali even better (my name)! And Ali is Ila backwards. Which I swear I didn't realise until one of my students pointed out what a narcissist I am.

Have Ila for sure. Just don't tell anyone else!

lol Bubba...oh we had plenty of fun when choosing names for our ds's....
me going through a name book (english one), stumbling over a name I thought I might like and asking dh:
"How do you pronounce this name....?" spelling whichever name I am asking about out ....
dh's response : "How do I know?"
me: "well, you are the englishman...!"
him: "and?"

need I say more...lol

3andnomore · 19/04/2008 17:53
