Names that were posh but aren't now...

THe jolly hockey sticks Cordelia got me thinking......

I knew, growing up, a very posh Annabel, Amelia and Beatrice.

All names that could be used by anybody these days. Imogen is another one that was ouch posh when I was about 12.

So what is posh now? Clemency? Tuppence?

What about my two, Barnaby and Jasper? Posh or just poncey? Not that I care I live waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy too far away to care

Jack and charlie are chavvy now at least here.Anabel is still posh i think so is henry and wilfred. Lots of posh Lucys when I was younger

I overheard a very posh-sounding Daddy calling after his long-haired male toddler in Tesco's "Sullivan, No dahling don't touch those" etc etc

My friend has a Sullivan for a nephew, and her family aren't posh. Lame name though.

actually my older sisters first name is penelope!!! although she never was called that, my dad insisted on calling her by her middle name, so she was never known as a penelope!!
its a funny name, looks really weird written down!! lol

I like both your children's names, fiodyl (and the penny has dropped about your name). I really don't think they're at either end of the spectrum. I particularly like Fiona - it's not used enough these days.

Freya - really? I thought it was getting a bit common(er) if anything but I loved it so Freya she is.

I was at school with a Cassandra - Cassie, mostly - very posh, and ditto Henrietta. Most of them are bearable-ish if shortened and though I wouldn't use Henrietta, it has positive memories because of my friend.

I have never met another Fiona you can never get any personalised stuff with it on- always have Freya though and for this reason alone I dont like that name

I used to quite dislike the name Fiona when I was younger, but it's really grown on me over the years and now I love it! Agree that it seems to have fallen out of favour somewhat (in England at least), which gives it sought-after 'lovely and unusual' status.

My cousin has 3 kids...... she's not posh (she lives in leicester) .

They are called Dharma, Lysander and Ophelia.... I love the name Lysander.... i think it's from a Shakespeare play

Ooh, I'm in Leicester! I shall keep an ear out for a little Lysander next time I'm by the clock tower

Lysander is character in "A Midsummer's Night Dream".

Lysander is also the hero of one of Jilly Coopers "bonkbusters" called The Man who made Husbands Jealous

I love the Shakespearian names, and I also love Persephone (or pretty much any name derived from the Greek and Roman myths)... Jasper is lovely too. However I have to concur with others and say that Rupert is the ultimate posh boy name
