Names that were posh but aren't now...

THe jolly hockey sticks Cordelia got me thinking......

I knew, growing up, a very posh Annabel, Amelia and Beatrice.

All names that could be used by anybody these days. Imogen is another one that was ouch posh when I was about 12.

So what is posh now? Clemency? Tuppence?

Quentin, on the other hand, doesn't sound posh to me, probably because all the little Quentin's I know are certainly not very posh at all.

Personally cannot see how Joby or Jonty are in anyway posh, knowing the ones I know.
Heard a beautiful name today- Evangeline- which I would consider quite posh.

That always seemed quite posh to me until my DS was in the same class as one who definitely wasn't.

I can't believe that we have got to 8 pages on this thread and no-one has yet mentioned freakonomics. It used to be mentioned all the time on here .

But a lot of the names I see on here, I would put down as middle class rather than posh. Names like Beatrice, Annabel, Isabella and so on I see a plenty in state schools, so would deem them more middle class than really 'posh'.

In fact, the few people I've known who were truly upper class, actually have quite normal names (like Georgina).

Just noticed someone put Bernard!!! Def. not posh in my experience.

15 years ago Harvey was seen as very posh.

Also Imogen, Amelia, Georgia, Tabitha, Oscar, Theodore, Toby & Louis.

I know a Vivienne who is known as Bunty. Maybe Bunty is a dim of Vivienne?
