THe jolly hockey sticks Cordelia got me thinking......

I knew, growing up, a very posh Annabel, Amelia and Beatrice.

All names that could be used by anybody these days. Imogen is another one that was ouch posh when I was about 12.

So what is posh now? Clemency? Tuppence?

Victoria has not been posh for ages. Tons of Victorias, often known as Vicky, in the 70s. But I suppose maybe prior to that it was.

Is Felicity posh?

MaryAnnSmotheredinchocolate · 22/03/2008 20:45

I know of a posh Donna, and that's probably not considered to be a posh name

MrsJohnCusack · 22/03/2008 20:56

lol at 'Boden' names - one is nearly my DD's name

I LOVE the name Hero. Love, love, love it

MaryAnnSmotheredinchocolate · 22/03/2008 20:57

kitsmummy · 23/03/2008 06:40

Now I always thought Rory was a relatively posh name, but my friend and her husband tell me it's the ultimate chav name, surely they're wrong???

Hmm my names been mentioned, (ends in bella...)

hmm, Poppy, Freddie, Daisy/Maisie, any surname as a first name once used to be the reserve of new england high society, eg Parker/Jefferson/Harper, so too did surnames/boys names for girls, eg Addison, Blair and McKenzie are also wealthy 20/30 something WASPs as well as sticky toddlers

Kama - one of the regular bus drivers on our route is called Lawrence - he's not very posh (although he is a great guy!)

In Scotland "Bunt" is short for Elizabeth (can't see the connection, but there you go..)

Pascal will alaways be posh as will Quentin

Quattrocento · 24/03/2008 20:58

Tarquin will always be posh because it is so ridiculous

I think that Octavia will always be posh. I don't think Emma is posh but other Austen names - Marianne for instance have some social cachet
