I've mentioned this on here before but on the subject of Beau, I knew someone who called her daughter Beaux which is the masculine version from what I understand but the worst part was the surname begins with O so the mum has given the child the initials BO. Just a bit thoughtless really!

Mine too.

Can confirm that Lleh would have been a better fit.

aahahah we did joke if Natas was a better fit as apparently she isn't the nicest...

Ira in America. I realise it is a common name of Hebrew origin but it still always gets me.

JigglyOhara · 19/01/2024 12:10

A boy called Creed

A girl called Misty Blue

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 19/01/2024 12:10

Beaux is plural. Belle (Belles is plural) is the feminine equivalent.

I've met a both a Pacer and a Pace.

TheBirdintheCave · 19/01/2024 12:10

@TidyDancer Beau in itself is French for handsome, so it's very male as it is. The female version would be Belle.

I taught in a couple of faith based schools in the UK and a lot of the children with African born parents had the most beautiful names like Mercy, Faith, Patience, Grace, Blessed ❤️

Love some African names like that!
Memento was my favourite

I met a child called La-a. With that spelling. Pronounced Ladasha.

I kid you not - this was in a professional capacity and that was how her name was written on her records.

I still can't quite believe it!

Did ye, aye?

Ladybird

You win! 🤣🤣🤣

idontlikealdi · 19/01/2024 12:13

Sisters in my daughter's school - Cairo and Berlin.

BouleDeSuif · 19/01/2024 12:14

Also Ladybird! I was waiting for a train about 15 years ago and a woman was telling her daughter off for messing about. The daughter's name was Ladybird.
I've heard Pocahontas shouted across a playground too, and my neighbour a few years ago had a grandson called Saracen.

northerngoldilocks · 19/01/2024 12:14

I was waiting in children's A&E recently and they were calling out for a kid named 'Marvellous' which did make me smile imagining that in a day to day context. Imagine it might be 'Marv' more generally though.

Chypre · 19/01/2024 12:15

ducks
Both Neveah and Lleh at a first glance look like perfectly plausible welsh names to me! Now I see its not the case and those are just heaven and hell spelled backwards. But after Myfanwy encounter I prefer to never judge anyones names and just assume it's something ethnic.

Hellnope · 19/01/2024 12:15

I met a child Santa

Ignatius. Still can't wrap my head around it.

Ignatius isn't that odd. I have met quite a few in catholic influenced areas of the world.

Yes, I've come across the name, as pp have said, it's after an important saint..

My great niece is called Serendipity.

That's rather beautiful, I like it a lot!

Chypre · 19/01/2024 12:17

@Hellnope very common girl name in Baltic countries :)

bessytedsy · 19/01/2024 12:17

A name isn’t random just because you haven’t come across them. It’s a bit offensive that names popular in other countries & cultures are considered random!

I've known a few - what is surprising about this name? Its a bit oldfashioned, but very well established

Esgaroth · 19/01/2024 12:17

A boy in my child's sports team is called Cato. I actually think it's very cool, but certainly unusual!
