Well I wouldn't call my son "Dick", but Dick Cheney parents thought otherwise and it never stopped him from making it to US Vice President post. Why "Olive" is deemed an acceptable and even tasteful name, but "Apple" is not? I will never understand that.

Work in a secondary school and we've had:
Vox
Pen
Beau
Jewel

Full names not abbreviated....probably more unusual rather than random really.

highdaysandholudays · 19/01/2024 11:59

@ruralwanderer Ignatius is an old Irish name. It's great. I went out with a guy called Ignatius when I was a teenager

Ignatius. Still can't wrap my head around it.

There were 83 boys called that in 2021. Ignacio is a very common boys name in Spain.

My friends little girl is called Ghettie, just like Spaghetti. My friend said she heard the name while they were on holiday in Rome! But it’s definitely not an Italian name or a name at all really. Her little girl is wonderful though.

I quite like the sound of Getty, but can't really get my head around the spelling they chose. It doesn't look lovely on the page.

ruralwanderer · 19/01/2024 12:01

It's a very unusual name where I live and I still do a double take every time I hear it. I'm sure in a big city it would pass completely unnoticed.

Spidey66 · 19/01/2024 12:02

I have a family member who called his son Ignatius. The parents are Irish/Irish descent. He’s known as Iggy.

Ghita is nickname for Margarita (not sure on spelling) and Zita was last Habsburg Empress

I know baby boy Milan. Has nothing to do with Italy or football though, his family is from Eastern Europe and it is quite a common name. Milan Kundera (novelist) also was Czech.

ShippingNews · 19/01/2024 12:04

My great niece is called Serendipity.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 19/01/2024 12:04

My mate's grandson has just been christened Kairo.

I have also met a female Noah and a female Wyatt (babies).

I have known some Precious, Chosen, Princess and Loved people, but that's a cultural thing that just seems unusual in the UK.

BlardyUseless · 19/01/2024 12:04

@Chypre Dick is a nickname for Richard. It used to be a common nickname but obviously it has fallen out of favour now

Potatomashed · 19/01/2024 12:05

Armani Bluu. Met at a baby group.

TinyTear · 19/01/2024 12:05

my kid goes to school with a Neveah

I thought it was a urban myth...

TomeTome · 19/01/2024 12:05

Ignatius is a saints name so there are a fair few Catholic Ignatius’

I taught in a couple of faith based schools in the UK and a lot of the children with African born parents had the most beautiful names like Mercy, Faith, Patience, Grace, Blessed ❤️

The first company I worked for had a computer system called Pick. It was created by Dick Pick!

Obviously, this was before the internet and mobile phones.

YessicaHaircut · 19/01/2024 12:08

Calamity Jane, when I worked in a secondary school 20 years back. There were 3 or 4 siblings and they all had very unusual names but hers is the one I remember!

Mine too.

Can confirm that Lleh would have been a better fit.
