Topaz Magenta. Thought that was a little 'out there', until I read some of these!

It's interesting that the names 'Friday' and 'October' have both appeared on this thread: Friday October having been the name of Fletcher Christian's first son. So those are old.

I can't hear the name 'Precious' without mentally replaying 'it rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again!'

I nearly fell over laughing at Tiny Kox and DKNY. Because I'm very childish.

Edited

How recently was this? I worked with a Topaz Magenta about 20 - 25 years ago. (NE England)

Bit of a misunderstanding there. The immaculate conception does not refer to the virgin birth. Immaculate conception is the notion that Mary herself was conceived and born without original sin. Most people who aren’t Catholic (and probably some who are) get these concepts mixed up. Presumably the nurse came from a strongly Catholic background where the name would be better understood?

I've known an Immaculata - as you say RC.

I quite liked it.

Can’t work this out at all 😂 Anyone else?

I can think of Rue and possibly Dil(l) - can't think or another 3 letter herb.

@CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau I think it's very cultural. In my ds's class through nursery and primary school, we met quite a few children named after Greek Gods and Roman Emperors. It was funny with the Deliveroo driver though as DH was asking when our curry was arriving and I said Julius Caesar is delivering it on a bike so it should take a little longer 😅

Takes me right back to "Jesus in the cabbage van".

😂

Ignatius. Still can't wrap my head around it.

One of our neighbours is called Ignatius. Known as Iggy. He's very friendly 😊

MinionKevin · 21/01/2024 21:01

Ive worked in several schools and I know there’s more but never remember.

FizzyStream · 21/01/2024 21:03

Born late 90s at a rough guess. But was north eastern, oddly enough!

Another old Cornish name along with Loveday! One of my best mates is called Demelza.

A colleague is called Karenza - also a lovely Cornish name.

Lunching at a pub recently and grandparents arrived with their grandson - Atticus. I did a double take to start off with but warmed to it. Lovely young lad

Shades of To Kill A Mockingbird here.

(now with for a "Boo")

I work with an African guy called Marvelous. These names are quite common in Africa. Patience, Miracle, etc

I regularly get emails from someone called Marvellous (I am in education and it is about student awards, is it the same guy)?

Can't be the same one, then. She must have been about 30-35 when I worked with her. Nice woman. No children.

Strange to think that there may be two - but in the same region I suppose they may be related.

NotGoingToLie · 22/01/2024 11:07

I knew a woman once called Cinnamon Lane. She was lovely!

PuppySnores · 22/01/2024 11:25

We know a teenage Cloudy.

Not children any more, but I have met a Pusskin and a Daffodil (who would be about 40 by now).

Work in a secondary school and we've had:
Vox
Pen
Beau
Jewel

Full names not abbreviated....probably more unusual rather than random really.

I see your Beau and raise you Beaux who is a girl. I also met a baby Ace many years ago which I was a bit boggled by.

I really like Beau, Beaux and Ace. I think they’re cool names and really not that ‘out there’.

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 22/01/2024 12:03

I knew twins named Lynn and Lachlan in the 80s.

And I know a Linda who named her son Linden.

Where is the imagination? Millions of lovely names out there to be used!

Hubblebubble · 22/01/2024 12:53

A baby Spike

Having gone back and read the thread, there are definitely examples of these names already so more common than I thought.

saturny · 22/01/2024 13:10

Yes. Beau has been mentioned lots but it's a not uncommon name used mainly for boys.

saturny · 22/01/2024 13:12

Beaux is ridiculous, especially if you have any French knowledge. Though I think Beau for a girl is similarly wrong, and would presume no French knowledge.
