Hello everyone!

I am 5 months pregnant, and my wife and I are having a hard time agreeing. After weeks of "arguing", we decided to forget about all the previous names suggested before and make a new list.
I absolutely hate all the names she wrote down :

  • Bradleigh ( her favourite)
  • Dallas
  • Paris
  • Lisandry
  • Helen ( The only one I like)

Whereas my favourite names are:

  • Romy ( She likes it but not love it)
  • Dahlia
  • Neva

She is so sure, those are pretty names. Pleaaase help, she'll be reading all the comments!

I vote for Helen (because it's my name). It's a classic name for hard -working, reliable, friendly and kind women. I've never heard anyone make fun of the name Helen.

Demainsdeslaube · 12/12/2023 21:33

Oh , didn't know that. Thanks for the input!

Sorry apart from Helen and Romy the rest sound as though you have made them up and not to my taste. Lisa is ok but is Lisadry a name? Also Niamh/Neeve is nice but Neva doesn't sound right.

noooooooo · 12/12/2023 21:34

Bradleigh, well, the spelling. However Neva is also ropey.

Dallas is potentially rather cool depending on the surname. Paris is dead basic. Lisandry I don’t hate but …misandry? Helen is totally fine, has the benefit of being less try-hard. Romy is rather sweet, Dahlia is a girl’s name, neither good nor bad.

I would say, and this may not please you, let she who runs the risk and destroys her pelvic floor, genitalia, and probably breasts, make the choice.

Georgie743 · 12/12/2023 21:35

BradLeigh is one of the chavviest names I've ever heard. Lisandry is ridiculous and sounds like a typo for misandry, which is doubly awful for a child with two mums.
and Dallas? Sorry - Dallas is a stripper name.

TheCurtainQueen · 12/12/2023 21:35

They’re all awful except for Helen.

Would anyone really be so cruel as to call a girl Bradley?! (Regardless of the spelling)

This.

They are pretty much all awful. Start again. And then ultimately, she's the one pushing a watermelon out herself. Especially if you get the last name, be nicer to her about the first name. Not Bradleigh nice but nice.

Demainsdeslaube · 12/12/2023 21:36

Previously to this, the only ones we both agreed on was Emma, Cristina and Lorena.

Lisandry sounds like a variety of hate crime.

Yes they are bloody awful except for Helen

I don’t like yours much either though, but agree they aren’t actively cracked.

How about Helena for a bit more interest

I do agree with PP that you are better trying to find common ground. Since your Mrs doesn’t have many boundaries, you might ask her to come up with actual names as a starting point.

There’s an app you can get that matches choices

Comedycook · 12/12/2023 21:36

Scrap both lists and go back to the drawing board.

Rocknrollstar · 12/12/2023 21:37

Helen, if you must. The rest, from both of you, are awful.

theduchessofspork · 12/12/2023 21:37

Emma is lovely!

HarryOHayandBettyOBarley · 12/12/2023 21:37

Emma, Christina, Helen are very different names to the others on your lists.

Do you think your wife is having you on with the new list?

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/12/2023 21:37

What's wrong with Emma?

You seem to like A-endings so Emilia? Amelia?

SausageAndEggSandwich · 12/12/2023 21:37

Helen is a good solid name

The rest are tragique, trashy or too trendy

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/12/2023 21:37

Helene? I prefer it with accents but they are a bugger.

Bigdishlittledish · 12/12/2023 21:38

Ooh all of those are awful...except Helen.

Completely missing the point but I really wonder how Helen made the list of such odd and awful names😂

boomtickhouse · 12/12/2023 21:38

All of those are much better.

Romily?
Lorinda?
Lucile?
Lucia?
Rosa?
Bradley spelt properly is fine
Harvey?
Harper?
Brandon?

Demainsdeslaube · 12/12/2023 21:39

She is not pregnant, I am. But we want 2 children, so she will be the next one to be "pushing the watermelon out".

We are two women, if that wasn't clear. So I don't understand why you are talking about last names? There's no hetero dynamic here.

The baby will have both of our names.

OP posts:
MarthaMayWho · 12/12/2023 21:41

They sound made up but like you are trying to get the mythological/literary vibe.

So my suggestions are:
Helena
Cordelia
Ophelia
Miranda
Daphne
Mina
Arabella
Lucy/Lucille
Drusilla
Anastasia
Rosie
Estelle

Well that's easier. Although more difficult in a way! Because if no one 'gets' the last name, there's no bargaining position.

Demainsdeslaube · 12/12/2023 21:36

You need to stop the ridiculous spellings.

Christina is a name, Cristina is not.

SoSad44 · 12/12/2023 21:42

“Pushing the watermelon” 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

Demainsdeslaube · 12/12/2023 21:42

Well, I tried to go "middle-ground" , so it's not too classic. I honestly prefer "traditional" names : Lola , Carla, Fiona , Flora, Sophia, Gabrielle.

HandyLittleGadget · 12/12/2023 21:42

I think the names your wife likes are horrible, but so are the ones you like
