Hello everyone!

I am 5 months pregnant, and my wife and I are having a hard time agreeing. After weeks of "arguing", we decided to forget about all the previous names suggested before and make a new list.
I absolutely hate all the names she wrote down :

  • Bradleigh ( her favourite)
  • Dallas
  • Paris
  • Lisandry
  • Helen ( The only one I like)

Whereas my favourite names are:

  • Romy ( She likes it but not love it)
  • Dahlia
  • Neva

She is so sure, those are pretty names. Pleaaase help, she'll be reading all the comments!

Is this a wind up?

Both your lists sound like something Hyacinth Bucket would dream up, and that is not a compliment.

Tbh It's the second person who comments about my wife being pregnant.

Maybe I should have wrote that we are a same sex couple. I thought the ' I am pregnant' and 'my wife' would do it.

Exactly. I would have thought what you wrote at the beginning of the OP:-

"I am 5 months pregnant"

couldn't possibly have been any clearer. Oh well 🙄

grinchers · 12/12/2023 22:17

Frankie
Jaicey
Jordan
?

geckofrog · 12/12/2023 22:18

The names you've chosen are awful

SecondUsername4me · 12/12/2023 22:18

Just go back to Emma, sign off on it as a done deal and hope your wife's name preferences improve before dc2.

squeekychicken · 12/12/2023 22:19

The original lists are awful. Are you in the states?

Your updated post though. Emma is lovely.

Chouette77 · 12/12/2023 22:19

Romy is a lovely name, as is Helen. Lisandry sounds like an infectious disease

Gwenhwyfar · 12/12/2023 22:19

Demainsdeslaube · 12/12/2023 21:28

Then I should say, which one is the least awful? Lol

They're all awful. Either this is a joke or you're both as bad as each other.

Gwenhwyfar · 12/12/2023 22:20

Chouette77 · 12/12/2023 22:19

Romy is a lovely name, as is Helen. Lisandry sounds like an infectious disease

A Helen in my mind is 50-80 years old.
It's maybe the least awful in that it's at least recognisable.

Just seen your later post. Definitely Romy or Emma - both gorgeous

I never noticed this. Yes to Emma. Beautiful, classy name.

purplesky18 · 12/12/2023 22:21

Out of every single one of those names I think Dahlia and Flora are the nicest, Helen is like naming a middle aged woman even if it is classic (no offence Helen’s ). The more ‘normal’ names are just very average in my opinion but your wife’s names are wayyyyy too out there. If I heard of a little girl named Dahlia I’d think wow I bet she grows up cool, Flora is very pretty but I do like twee names for girls!

ladygindiva · 12/12/2023 22:21

Romy is great. Give her a choice of middle name?

MarthaMayWho · 12/12/2023 22:21

I know there's a thing for gender neutral names but she should be proud to have a girls name and not a boys name. Names that came be shortened to a neutral name are a way to go if your wife likes gender neutral.
Some more names to throw out there
Annalise- Anna-Ann-Lise
Robyn
Cassia- Cassie
Alexandra Alex

I know....is it made up I wonder? Sounds like misandry, or some kind of disease.

The only name I can think of is Lisander, which is a boy's name. I think she must have misheard some name. Lisnandry does sound like a disease. It rhymes with dysentery.

ohdamnitjanet · 12/12/2023 22:22

All bloody horrible except Romy. They’ll have the piss taken out of them forever.

Demainsdeslaube · 12/12/2023 22:22

@Gwenhwyfar Yup, guess I found the woman of my life then, if we are both awful hahaha

If you like more traditional names why is your own list so bad? And having a baby is not pushing a water melon out,

what ever you name this child, they are a person. A human, so try to be serious. I assume your thread is a piss take, the haha isn’t it funny, we want to name our kid something awful and think it’s like pushing a water melon out.

yeah, funny if you’re 12.

Flyhigher · 12/12/2023 22:22

Prefer yours. To hers. Helen is a bit boring.

ILoveChocolateandCoffee · 12/12/2023 22:23

I think Emma is a lovely timeless classic name. Helen is old lady name. Its my name too and I always felt too young for the name. Helena or even Helene would be better.

Actupfishy · 12/12/2023 22:23

Oh I LOVE dahlia x

NewMeNewYou · 12/12/2023 22:23

I have a Dahlia (Dar-lia not Day-lia) and absolutely love it so good choice by you Wink

Calliopespa · 12/12/2023 22:24

RoachFish · 12/12/2023 22:03

How do you pronounce Romy? Like Roam-y or Rommy? I quite like Remi but I am not British and I don't know what works there.

Otherwise I'd definitely choose Dahlia.

I’m afraid I really don’t get the sudden trend for Romy. It sounds like the brand name of a camper van or like some derivative of Rome ( as in “Londony” or “New Yorky.”) Helen is serviceable and would be my pick, mainly as it’s the only one that sounds like it could stand the test of time ( or be used without people saying “she’s called what??”) but I think Helena is much prettier and also somehow more modern and more classic at the same time. Emma is fine, uninspired but fine.

Chouette77 · 12/12/2023 22:24

Oh I like the suggestion Cassie or Cassandra

LesLavandes · 12/12/2023 22:25

Romy or Romi is ok

SauronsArsehole · 12/12/2023 22:25

if she wants something from unusual then suggest good historical names

Boudicca
Artimesia
Beatrix
Galswintha
Brunhild
Ulrika

all were queens though history.

you could also go with goddesses and deities

hera
venus
Sabrina
brigid
ceridwen

some of these are just as bad as the initial list (in that kids are dicks to each other and some will get more flak that other’s) but it’s a good starting point that might draw you closer to some big standard English names.
