Anyone like to be kind about my girls' names list????

So come July I may be needing one of these (will think about boys tomorrow), what does anyone think? I like old-fashionedy, feminine names, but obviously don't want Emily, Isabella, Sophie or any of the others (all lovely names of course, lovely lovely but a bit too common at the moment from the names listings you see). DP likes ones that end in -a.

Alice (I'm not mad about Alicia though)
Louisa
Iona
Thea
Julia

I've always liked Flavia but it's way too pretentious to use.

I like these but not IN LOVE with any.

If you like Thea then how about Theodora - then she could be Theo or Dora for short. Means 'gods gift' apparently.

If you want want ending in 'a' - Georgia/Georgina. Can be shortened to George should she turn tomboy. (I was a big Famous 5 fan as a child - can you tell?!?)
Rhona is nice too.

LL - I must be the exception to your rule - a Fiona with biggish breasts but if I lose weight they will disappear!! I was known as the TitlessWonder in my youth!

No19 · 13/03/2008 09:50

Crumbs is going to take a long time trawling but thank you nappyaddict! Will print off this thread & look at it with DP. Will have to check first I have not said anything bad about him!

Buda do I detect a Fiona???

India is absolutely gorgeous, and I like Anna too. Matilda and Martha I do like but perhaps too popular at mo - not that this really matters I suppose but one does want a bit of originality - seems to get harder and harder though. When I was growing up only ever met 1 other person with my name & I quite liked that. Sarahs, Emmas etc abounded.

Clemency very very pretty, nicer than Clementine, and I do like Clem as well. DP surname 3 syllables ending in y though so I wonder if suitable.

Those are all good options.

Tabitha?
Lydia?

No19 · 13/03/2008 09:57

Buda of your 2 names I prefer Fiona to Titless.

ghkjfkesk

I also suggested Diana (NOTHING to do with the late) and DP nearly fell out of bed choking on his own disgust.

Oops sorry that was DD! Possibly telling you to use her name...(it ends in a and is feminine but not very traditional...)

keevamum · 13/03/2008 10:01

my eldest is called Keeva which is gaelic and should be spelt Caoimhe but we anglicized it. We think it's great unfortunately Keeva doesn't but hopefully will when she's a bit older. It also means loveliness. Don't want to promote it too much as we love the fact it's so unusual. Also love Lola Rose, Dulcie, and Ruby.

PortAndLemon · 13/03/2008 10:02

What about Dinah rather than Diana?

cheesesarnie · 13/03/2008 10:03

I like Alice and Louisa

No19 · 13/03/2008 10:05

I am so hopeless with associations is the thing.

(just to be with) Dinah Lee
Mrs Fiona Charming
Tabitha one of Beatrix Potter's anthropomorphised pussycats
Isla St Clair
Sienna Miller

etc etc etc

I like Venetia, I know one of my ageish, none others, it's pretty but is it a touch over the top?

No19 · 13/03/2008 10:06

No19 - funnily enough so do I (prefer Fiona that is!!). I do get called Fi though sometimes. Used to get called Fifi which I hated.
