Very unique girl name (named after a holiday) ❤️ Will she be bullied? Is it cheesy?

My husband and I are due with our first child, a baby girl, at the end of February. I'll likely be induced 2 weeks early due to blood pressure which would fall exactly on Valentine's Day.

We have decided to call her our little lovebug.....

Ivy-Valentine🩷🎀❤️

Valentine pronounced just like the holiday!

It will be a double-barreled first name, but she will probably go by either Ivy or Valentine since it's long. We love having both names included in her first name. A lot of people have been saying to just make it her first and middle name, but we aren't worried about it since most people will call her one or the other and she will have options like I never had.

What are your thoughts?? Do you think she might be bullied around Valentine's Day since it is the holiday of love? Kids can be mean at that age! We are set on the name completely but any opinions are welcome. She will probably be wearing a lot of heart themed clothing and pink and red until she tells me she wants otherwise hehe, is it cheesy 🙈 I love names that have a story relating to the child's birth. Even if she isn't born on Valentine's Day it'll still be close enough so it works for us.

And if you use valentine as a first name, you know she will end up called val right? Are you happy with that?

HongKongGarden · 03/10/2023 21:51

Highlyflavouredgravy · 03/10/2023 21:48

Please please lose the hyphen. It is so tacky.
Nice names otherwise. Valentine is a boy's name though.

Billy Ray Valentine : [while acting blind and legless] Hey, baby, what's happening? How are ya doing? Once you have a man with no legs, you never go back, baby. I know what you're thinkin'. Is he funky in bed?

@Soontobe60 Mine haven’t been, they’ve both got very unusual names, but I’m really sorry to hear that’s not been your experience.

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 03/10/2023 21:54

As someone who has a bday on Valentines day, please don't.
It's a pain frankly, worse as you get older.
Don't make it worse by calling your daughter it. Even more so if she is born on the 15th or 16th. A lifetime of explaining.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 03/10/2023 21:55

The two 'v' sounds are a bit clumsy together.

BruceAndNosh · 03/10/2023 21:55

When you said she was going to be named after a holiday, I thought you were planning on calling her Mykonos or Ibiza

Lelophants · 03/10/2023 21:56

It’s a perfectly nice name. I know a Valentina and everyone thinks her name is lovely.

BasiliskStare · 03/10/2023 21:56

@OP as others have said I think losing the hyphen would be better - She can introduce herself as Ivy Valentine without it. Also the only person ( not surname ) who had Valentine as a name was male. I think Ivy Valentine XXXX would be lovely

I know that was not what you wanted to hear ( re dropping the hyphen ) but my opinion . Whichever way I wish your luck for a safe delivery & a healthy birth for you and baby girl.

Lelophants · 03/10/2023 21:57

Kids have all sorts of names these days and are much more international. Trust me, the names I’ve heard 🤣 she won’t get bullied for it

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 03/10/2023 21:57

In my part of the world that name wouldn't be considered at all unique. I know several people, male and female with the name valentine as either a first or middle name. I quite like it. Moreso as 2 separate names tho

WhatAPalaverer · 03/10/2023 21:57

Double barrelled names are awful so make it a
middle name. Also valentine is a boy’s name so valentina for a girl.

SherbetLemonn · 03/10/2023 21:57

I actually rather like Ivy Valentine Surname but honestly, to me personally, it’s awful hyphenated. It’s also completely unnecessary given you have no intention of calling her by the whole shebang anyway!

2teenboys · 03/10/2023 21:57

I know a few Feb babys with Valentine as the middle name.

I really dislike double barrelled names though.

OrangeBlossomPretty · 03/10/2023 21:58

Um. It's not a holiday.
I'd call her Valentina. If you are set on it.
Valentine is a boy's name.

And I'd lose the double barrel.

OrangeBlossomPretty · 03/10/2023 21:59

NuffSaidSam · 03/10/2023 21:48

If she comes a day early on pancake day will you be calling her Ivy-Pancake?

It's fine as two separate names. Awful with the hyphen.

Ivy Gallette ?

Doveyouknow · 03/10/2023 22:00

My great grandfather was valentine - he was born on valentine's day - so for me it's a boy's name with Valentina being the female version. I really wouldn't hyphenate it as it makes for such a long name - imagine having to fill in forms. It might be a slightly odd name if your dd arrives a day just before or after the 14th.

CatherinedeBourgh · 03/10/2023 22:01

Don't give her a name with a hyphen, you are condemning her to a lifetime of being unable to fill computer forms.

Pancakefam · 03/10/2023 22:01

It's all so unbearably twee. You're going to constantly dress her in hearts as well? This is a person, not a dolly

Chocolatepringles · 03/10/2023 22:02

Since when was St. Valentine's Day a holiday???

Ivy is a lovely name. Valentine is quite nice. Not sure about it being hyphenated though.

militarychick5260 · 03/10/2023 22:02

usernother · 03/10/2023 21:48

Valentine's Day isn't a holiday. Ivy is a nice name but I've only ever heard of men being called Valentine.

I live in the US not the UK it is very much a holiday here. And double barreled names are common in the South where my husband is from and people usually go by one or the other name

All information which probably ought to have been in the first post if you wanted sensible advice, given that this is a predominantly UK-based forum…

Me as well.

Ivy Valentina surely?

EwwSprouts · 03/10/2023 22:04

If you hyphenate it, it will always be shortened to Ivy. People are usually too lazy to persevere with five syllables. It's too long for a name badge etc. Just go with it as a first and middle name and then it will always be used as you intended.

Fifireee · 03/10/2023 22:04

It’s great but not double barrelled. Hyphenated names are ghastly.
