Very unique girl name (named after a holiday) ❤️ Will she be bullied? Is it cheesy?

My husband and I are due with our first child, a baby girl, at the end of February. I'll likely be induced 2 weeks early due to blood pressure which would fall exactly on Valentine's Day.

We have decided to call her our little lovebug.....

Ivy-Valentine🩷🎀❤️

Valentine pronounced just like the holiday!

It will be a double-barreled first name, but she will probably go by either Ivy or Valentine since it's long. We love having both names included in her first name. A lot of people have been saying to just make it her first and middle name, but we aren't worried about it since most people will call her one or the other and she will have options like I never had.

What are your thoughts?? Do you think she might be bullied around Valentine's Day since it is the holiday of love? Kids can be mean at that age! We are set on the name completely but any opinions are welcome. She will probably be wearing a lot of heart themed clothing and pink and red until she tells me she wants otherwise hehe, is it cheesy 🙈 I love names that have a story relating to the child's birth. Even if she isn't born on Valentine's Day it'll still be close enough so it works for us.

Another vote for Ivy Valentina. Hyphen names are unnecessary.

Bichette · 04/10/2023 16:52

Valentine is a girls name in France.
The male version is Valentin which is very popular.

It’s fine for a middle name, lose the double barrel though, cheapens a name.

This

Otherwise it’s fine

LadyDaffodil · 04/10/2023 19:44

Am I the only one who read that as holiday, as in destination and was expecting little Benidorm or Ayia Napa 🤦🏼‍♀️

No, you're about the 30th.

Yes ignore the pink ,ignore the hearts, crack on dress a child like a quality street because it pleases you. Pretend you don’t get the tackiness of such attire and that’s it’s only pink. Hey what’s the harm in imposing stereotypical clothing upon a child

This was my first thought - Valentina is better.

I think I'd be a bit embarrassed to tell people middle name is Valentine tbh.

Sunandsea26 · 04/10/2023 20:07

I love it 🥰 and most importantly you and hubby do so go for it!!!

Ladyluck22 · 04/10/2023 20:10

We have a boy at my school called Attila as in Atilla, the Hun.
So I think anything goes these days.
I prefer it as a first and second name. Names like this are great when they’re young but think about their future as adults with an unusual name.

TinaTotal · 04/10/2023 20:27

Please don't hyphenate it. It's cringe. (Also as someone with a hyphenated first name no one ever calls me by the second part of the name)

Valentine is a boys name.

Ivy is both horrible and over used.

Valentina for a first name is lovely.

Goshdarnitgoofy · 04/10/2023 20:31

I know a kid with that name - I don’t think it’s that unique or weird that a kid would get bullied

Pollydarling · 04/10/2023 20:33

Don't double barrell. School won't use one name as they go by birth certificate for EVERY SINGLE LABEL ON EVERY BOOK, TRAY, LOCKER AND REGISTER unless you make a special request not to, if you're going to request one name it makes it completely pointless double barrelling in the first place. Every member of school staff will call her by her double barrelled name as that's what they will learn her name as.

Pollydarling · 04/10/2023 20:35

And I say this as an infuriated teacher who gets several double barrelled girls every single fucking year just to be told they've dropped one name and can we please change the register, print new labels etc etc

ActDottie · 04/10/2023 20:46

Lose the hyphen it’s awful.

Ivy as a first name then Valentine as a middle name is fine.

therealcookiemonster · 04/10/2023 20:46

I would agree that it should be seperate first and middle names...

KirstenBlest · 04/10/2023 20:48

@Pollydarling , go on, give us some examples.

I can think of a few boys who are -Jon or -Jay but the girls tend to be -Rose,-May , -Grace or -Rae, or if a bit older -Jane,-Anne,-Louise or -Lee/Leigh.
I can think of one or two where the names just don't go together but by school age the hyphenated part was dropped

AngryBird6122 · 04/10/2023 20:58

It's nice but I really don't see anyone (friends, teachers etc) calling her the whole thing. It's too long winded. So she will probably just go by Ivy. Are you ok with that?

user123212 · 04/10/2023 21:05

It's fine. The only thing I'm worried about is whether it puts too much pressure on her to have a Valentine/bf when she's older. As in some people get depressed on Valentines day. Maybe overthinking though!

Storminthesky · 04/10/2023 22:54

OP I actually really like the name, I also guessed you were US based from your wording. I think the issue more so with the hyphen is the second name is longer. Quite often so with a hyphenated name the second name is shorter especially in the UK. (I know it's not always the case, before anyone shoots me down, it's just from personal experience) For example a lot of hyphenated names of people I know are
Ella-Mai
Evie-Mae
Gracie-May
Bella-Mia (my niece)

You get my drift. But at the end of the day she's your baby. So you choose what you both love. As long as it's not detrimental to your child as she's growing up which I doubt it will be, if she doesn't like the name she can always drop the Valentine or vice versa! You pick what's right for you and your baby.

Good luck and Congratulations to you for when she's here 🩷

Greentomatoes21 · 04/10/2023 22:59

Pretty names but I would prefer Valentina to Valentine. When I hear "Ivy Valentine", I also sort of hear, "I've a valentine".

Twelve8Ts · 05/10/2023 22:31

Valentine is lovely, but you don’t need to double barrel. It’s pointless. Much sweeter as a middle name. My daughters middle name is Valentine and I love it!

BeverlyBrook · 06/10/2023 12:28

Why would you call a girl a boys name?
Valentine is not a unisex name.
It's like calling a boy Lauren. Just odd.

Twelve8Ts · 07/10/2023 15:15

@BeverlyBrook I think you need to move with the times. The world isn’t just Jacks and Isabelle’s. These kids will most likely work in multi cultural organisations with all sorts of names from all sorts of cultures when they’re older.
I don’t know any male Valentines so to say it’s ‘odd’ is a bit dramatic.

dressedforcomfort · 07/10/2023 15:21

It's too much for a first name IMO. How about Valentine as a middle name?

Also, the only Valentine's I've heard have all been men. Not sure if that's an issue for you or not. 🤷🏻‍♀️
