Very unique girl name (named after a holiday) ❤️ Will she be bullied? Is it cheesy?

My husband and I are due with our first child, a baby girl, at the end of February. I'll likely be induced 2 weeks early due to blood pressure which would fall exactly on Valentine's Day.

We have decided to call her our little lovebug.....

Ivy-Valentine🩷🎀❤️

Valentine pronounced just like the holiday!

It will be a double-barreled first name, but she will probably go by either Ivy or Valentine since it's long. We love having both names included in her first name. A lot of people have been saying to just make it her first and middle name, but we aren't worried about it since most people will call her one or the other and she will have options like I never had.

What are your thoughts?? Do you think she might be bullied around Valentine's Day since it is the holiday of love? Kids can be mean at that age! We are set on the name completely but any opinions are welcome. She will probably be wearing a lot of heart themed clothing and pink and red until she tells me she wants otherwise hehe, is it cheesy 🙈 I love names that have a story relating to the child's birth. Even if she isn't born on Valentine's Day it'll still be close enough so it works for us.

Valencia is also sweet with another second name.

I find the Ivy Valentine too over powered with 'V' sounds to say together all the time, actually.
It's too much of a tongue twister and the hyphen is bad..

You could use I V Y as three names and call her the acronym.
Ida Valentine Yvette Surname - Ivy
Isla Valentine Yasmin - Ivy

Ivy Valentine Surname
Ivy Valentina Surname
Valentina Ivy Surname

All lovely

Ivy-Valentine Surname, absolutely no.

When you said she was going to be named after a holiday, I thought you were planning on calling her Mykonos or Ibiza

I'd come on this thread just to post "what, like Benidorm?" but you beat me to it.

DoubleFunMum · 03/10/2023 22:58

She'll get called Val 😩

Rosecutting · 03/10/2023 22:58

Lovely names but 2 not a hyphenated one.

SoftSheen · 03/10/2023 23:02

Ivy Valentina. NO HYPHEN

Moveoverdarlin · 03/10/2023 23:03

I actually don’t mind Valentine, but Ivy just reminds me of a little old lady.

PoseasRadicalActuallyMisogynistic · 03/10/2023 23:03

Barcelona is a nice name for a girl, I’ve been on holiday there a couple of times

HMW1906 · 03/10/2023 23:03

Go with first name Ivy, middle name Valentine then if she’s hates it or gets bullied it’s easier just to hide the middle name.

Do you have a backup name for it she isn’t born on Valentines? Pre-mature? Just cos you’re induced Valentine’s Day could mean it’s actually born 3-4 days later. no appointments to be induced on that day available…childbirth rarely happens on the exact day you want it to.

sprigatito · 03/10/2023 23:05

I like both names and wouldn't worry about teasing, but I think hyphenating them doesn't really work, especially as Ivy and Valentine both have a "v" sound quite close together. I would pick the one you like best as first name and have the other as middle name.

RobertaFirmino · 03/10/2023 23:07

Do bear in mind that: A - Your induction day may change and B - She may arrive on the 15th or even 16th! With this in mind, I've looked at the dates and discovered that the 15th of Feb is World Hippo Day and the 16th is National Almond Day. If she ends up being born on the 12th, you could call her Darwin (a fine name!) as it's Charles Darwin Day (as well as being National Plum Pudding day!).

FWIW, the name 'Ivy' is not unique. You can thank Beyonce for that. It's a very nice name, plant/flower names usually are but there will be many little Ivys around. Like the plant itself, it has spread like wildfire.

NotStayingIn · 03/10/2023 23:08

Sorry OP, I know you like it but I'm another one strongly against the hyphen. I really like the names, but as soon as you add the hyphen it ruins it completely.

Myneighboursarewankers · 03/10/2023 23:09

I love it xx

Valentine is a boy's name

Don't be silly.

Love the name OP.

This is a mostly Uk forum so many won't know about the south of US.

Would never ever mention names on here ever again if they are unique. People just want the same old Jack, Jill, Dave ect.

Times have changed. Different names are cropping up all the time. Kids named after game of thrones characters are pretty common now but people here wouldn't have you believe it.

ReadingSoManyThreads · 03/10/2023 23:10

Hate to burst your bubble @militarychick5260 but Valentine isn't a unique name. I know several!

I'd check what all the initials are though, hope the surname isn't F.

I do like the name Valentine, can't stand the name Ivy though!

Pronounced, "BarTHelona" or BarSElona"? 🤭

MangosteenSoda · 03/10/2023 23:12

I was hoping for Faliraki… but, after reading the OP I understood the US usage of ‘holiday’ and am surprised it has caused this much confusion.

OP, I guess you now know that hyphenated names are not very popular in the UK. And that Valentina is typically the female version of that name.

I think the name you have chosen probably works well in the US, but the most important thing is that you both love it. Congratulations!

Scirocco · 03/10/2023 23:12

Ivy Valentine is potentially not the best namesake...

I like a geeky reference as much as the next gamer, but that's not a character I'd want my daughter to be associated with.

Stompythedinosaur · 03/10/2023 23:13

It's way too long for a first name.

I think you are focusing on how cute you will find it for a baby, not her experience having to live saddled with a name like that.

crazyscottsmum · 03/10/2023 23:13

My wee girl is River - Amari and Mia - Navara if you like it go for it!! Names are so different now days kids are different highly doubt will get bullied for it seriously, love the name go for it xx

321user123 · 03/10/2023 23:15

Congratulations on your pregnancy and baby girl!

I love the sound of the name and I can almost guarantee I heard it before.
cant tell if in a song, movie or a celebrity though 😅

Zone2NorthLondon · 03/10/2023 23:15

Unnecessary hyphen and it’s clunky sounding. The combination it’s mismatched

AuntieStella · 03/10/2023 23:15

I thought the holiday reference meant Shirley Valentine
