Very unique girl name (named after a holiday) ❤️ Will she be bullied? Is it cheesy?

My husband and I are due with our first child, a baby girl, at the end of February. I'll likely be induced 2 weeks early due to blood pressure which would fall exactly on Valentine's Day.

We have decided to call her our little lovebug.....

Ivy-Valentine🩷🎀❤️

Valentine pronounced just like the holiday!

It will be a double-barreled first name, but she will probably go by either Ivy or Valentine since it's long. We love having both names included in her first name. A lot of people have been saying to just make it her first and middle name, but we aren't worried about it since most people will call her one or the other and she will have options like I never had.

What are your thoughts?? Do you think she might be bullied around Valentine's Day since it is the holiday of love? Kids can be mean at that age! We are set on the name completely but any opinions are welcome. She will probably be wearing a lot of heart themed clothing and pink and red until she tells me she wants otherwise hehe, is it cheesy 🙈 I love names that have a story relating to the child's birth. Even if she isn't born on Valentine's Day it'll still be close enough so it works for us.

It’s fine for a middle name, lose the double barrel though, cheapens a name.

noooooooo · 03/10/2023 21:40

Congratulations! I don’t think kids get bullied for their names anymore, or at least nowhere near so much, there’s so much more variety and diversity now. I like Valentine a lot, never heard a girl called that.

Ivebeentogeorgia · 03/10/2023 21:42

I like it but as 2 separate names. That would be a pain of a name for her to write out all the time! Ivy Valentine Surname would be lovely

Spudsanyway · 03/10/2023 21:42

Very unlikely the baby will arrive the same day your induced!

Daisybuttercup12345 · 03/10/2023 21:42

It's fine.
Little love bug makes me cringe!!!

SapphireOpal · 03/10/2023 21:42

You already accept she'll go by one or the other so just use them as first and middle. It'll be harder for her to do that if you hyphenate.

Spudsanyway · 03/10/2023 21:43

You're

TomatoSandwiches · 03/10/2023 21:44

I would use them as first and middle.

Housenoob · 03/10/2023 21:45

But what if she's born on the 15th...

Induction on a particular day doesn't necessarily mean you'll have her the same day! Happy induction day doesn't quite have the same ring as happy birthday.

Findyourneutralspace · 03/10/2023 21:45

Lose the hyphen and it’s lovely. However my Valentines baby was almost a week late. He’s still a little love though

Littlepetites · 03/10/2023 21:45

That’s an absolutely gorgeous name. She’ll be unique but that’s not a bad thing. Really love it x

purpleme12 · 03/10/2023 21:46

I think Valentine is getting more popular than it used to be so I wouldn't be worrying about bullying. if I like the name I'd used it.

Personally because Valentine is 3 syllables yes I think it's a bit of a mouthful double barrelled.
So agree with the others about using one as a middle name.
But if you love it like that then you should just do it anyway

megletthesecond · 03/10/2023 21:46

It's sweet. But use it as a middle name, no hyphen.

androidnotapple · 03/10/2023 21:46

Poor kid. Make Ivy the first name and Valentine the middle. Would you like tht name as an adult?

Amabilis · 03/10/2023 21:46

I love the name Valentine. It’s traditionally a boy’s name but I don’t think that matters.

QueSyrahSyrah · 03/10/2023 21:46

Well she won't be the only mid-February born kid called Valentine. It's about as unique as Holly or Nicholas for Christmas babies.

Please don't hyphenate it though, it'll be a pain in her backside for ever.

Alloveragain3 · 03/10/2023 21:46

Thoughts on Valentina? One of my all time faves.
To me, Valentine seems like a surname

NuffSaidSam · 03/10/2023 21:48

If she comes a day early on pancake day will you be calling her Ivy-Pancake?

It's fine as two separate names. Awful with the hyphen.

Trust me, they do!

AnonGCMum · 03/10/2023 21:48

Since when was Valentine’s Day a holiday? It’s not a terrible name though by any means, just a bit unusual for a girl.

Highlyflavouredgravy · 03/10/2023 21:48

Please please lose the hyphen. It is so tacky.
Nice names otherwise. Valentine is a boy's name though.

usernother · 03/10/2023 21:48

Valentine's Day isn't a holiday. Ivy is a nice name but I've only ever heard of men being called Valentine.

HongKongGarden · 03/10/2023 21:49

I think that as long as you live in Alabama or Tennessee it should be absolutely fine.

Obviously if you live in the UK it’d not work so well.

Agree. Ivy Valentina is lovely and a nod to her February birthday without being cheesy.

Gro · 03/10/2023 21:49

Valentine is a boys name. Also a first name with a hyphen is a pain. She will spend her whole life spelling her name for people. Just make it a middle name, if you don't plan on calling her her whole name anyway then it's no problem.
