Why are boy names so hard?! :(

Currently pregnant with #2 and unsure of the gender as of yet. We have a girls name chosen and have had for a while, but are struggling with finding boys names we like. We like the more 'unusual' boho / nature themed names. This is the current list of names I like, but not love yet, so you get an idea.

Bear
Elijah (I like this but potentially too 'common')
Tate
Hendrix
Fox
Oren
Lennox
Wolf

Elijah, Lennox or Hendrix

I think that's the problem nowadays, everyone's trying to be so creative and ends up naming their children something ridiculous 🙄

jiinglebells · 27/09/2023 15:38

Oo Oren sounds really interesting, I like that!

Wolf / Bear - got to hope the baby would be a hulk of a child for these names imo 😂

spiderlight · 27/09/2023 15:40

'Oren' is Welsh for 'orange', just so you're aware.

Jude
Xavier
Zak

Can I just gently suggest you choose a name that wouldn't be a burden for them?

I personally think its unfair and cruel to call a child fox, wolf or bear. Cute when they're younger of course but not as an adult man.

Bubblehorizon · 27/09/2023 16:01

I love Elijah, so handsome. Hendrix and Lennox are quite nice too.

Ohmylovejune · 27/09/2023 16:04

I know two adult Wolf's!

One is German and its short for Wolfgang. The other is English.

I think you are struggling because you are trying too hard to find something unusual. There are lots of really lovely, but slightly more common, names.

I've lived with an uncommon name for 56 years and you have to accept that the constant cost of choosing it is that it will be misspelt regularly and in my case actually changed for a name thats common and close in pronunciation

PickledScrump · 27/09/2023 16:04

I’d say that Elijah is actually less common than some of your other options. I know a few boys called Bear now. Many of these names are used to try and be a bit different but they have all started to rise in popularity. I only know one Elijah and he’s in his late 20s.

Yes I myself have an uncommon name, one that I have never come across another in person! My husband also has a more uncommon name. We both love the creativity and individualism having a more unusual name gives. The only thing I wasn't a fan of when I was little was not being able to find my name on those name mug stands at the seaside 😆

@hotcandle @FoodFann Thank you for your opinions, however my post clearly states we favour more unusual names and are looking for ideas of similar ones! If you have nothing constructive to add, there is no need to comment, but thank you for taking the time anyway x

I've registered lots of baby Bears. And a whole gaggle of Teddys.

No Elijah though yet.

Also, I've personally registered three Mavericks in the last year 😁 And a Hendrix. And a Rebel. It's become quite a thing to pick names like that.

BambinoBlue · 27/09/2023 16:13

I had a Bodhi just yesterday as well 😁

GG1975 · 27/09/2023 16:27

I really like Elijah Bear. I work in a school and in all the years I've worked there we have had some very unique names but never an Elijah.

CurlewKate · 27/09/2023 16:30

How about Briar if you like nature names? Or Daisy?

MagnoliatheMagnificent · 27/09/2023 16:31

Bramble? I know of one, a teenager now.

RedGreenBlueSky · 27/09/2023 16:39

The last baby I was introduced to was Hendrix so perhaps not as unusual as you would think. Tate made me immediately think of Andrew Tate so would be a no (also, on same theme Fox and Laurence Fox but that's less obvious!)

What about Rowan, Jasper, August, River, Oakley?
