Faraday or Iris or...?

Struggling to find a girl's name I love.

I like slightly unusual but not too 'out-there' names, and also not a huge fan of girls' names ending in -a, though there are a few exceptions.

Is Faraday too out there? Any other suggestions?

Yes

cherryassam · 19/07/2023 10:39

Faraday is just instantly completed by ‘cage’ in my head.

Iris is lovely.

RaraRachael · 19/07/2023 10:55

Faraday. Seriously?

When we learned about the scientist Michael Faraday we always called him Fartaday so that's what it makes me think of.

Mog37 · 19/07/2023 11:03

Iris is nice.

Never come across the name Faraday apart from in Michael Faraday. Isn’t it a unit used to measure something to do with electricity?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 19/07/2023 11:08

Faraday is gorgeous.

SuperSange · 19/07/2023 11:14

Faraday? 😆

SunnyFog · 19/07/2023 11:41

Faraday has a lovely sound bur it's from Fer Adaigh which means man of the woods.

Plump82 · 19/07/2023 11:45

I live near a retail park called Faraday. Can't say I've even thought of it as a first name. Iris, on the other hand is lovely.

ArtichokeAardvark · 19/07/2023 11:45

Never heard of Faraday, but I went to school with a Loveday so you might like that name along the same lines?

Iris is pretty - I do think of it as an old lady name but they all seem to be having a resurgence and it's one of the nicer ones!

itsmyp4rty · 19/07/2023 11:51

Another one who lives near a Faraday industrial park. It's awful. Go for Iris definitely.

ejbaxa · 19/07/2023 11:53

It would be embarrassing to be called Faraday and turn out to be crap at (or just dislike) physics!

Iris is fine.

GoodVibesHere · 19/07/2023 11:56

Faraday!?? Hmm how about:

Einstein
Pasteur
Fleming
Watson
Crick

TropicalTrama · 19/07/2023 12:05

Faraday is that thing you store your keys in to stop your range rover being nicked 🤣You could just go with Farah because that’s actually a girl’s name! Prefer Iris though.

PerspiringElizabeth · 19/07/2023 12:07

Yeeeeeeeears ago the name Holliday was suggested on here and I absolutely LOVE it. Didn’t use it for my DD as we are a v regular family and it would be weird. But it’s so gorgeous! Could always be Holly if she hates it.

So I suggest Hol(l)liday 😄

PerspiringElizabeth · 19/07/2023 12:08

Ooh yeah Farah is a good idea

TheFireflies · 19/07/2023 12:08

Farrah is a name. Faraday is a surname.

Laurdo · 19/07/2023 12:09

What about just Fara?

Or Mallory sounds similar.

WaltzingWaters · 19/07/2023 12:09

Faraday - no.

Not personally a fan of Iris as just feels very old lady, but then a lot of those names are coming back. Much better than Faraday though.

Pinkchicken85 · 19/07/2023 12:14

Unless you really love electrical engineering stick with Iris, although that makes me think of eyeballs.

PurpleButterflyWings · 19/07/2023 12:16

Faraday?! 😂

DRS1970 · 19/07/2023 12:23

If you name her Faraday you will have to keep her in a metal cage that is fully grounded... 🙃

JanesBlond · 19/07/2023 12:29

Agree Faraday is mentally auto-completed with cage. Not a good choice at all.

Iris is lovely. Ariadne?

Sealover123 · 19/07/2023 12:39

Faraday sounds made up, although I know it is a surname.

DuchessOfSausage · 19/07/2023 12:41

She could have Kaige as a middle name

AuntieStella · 19/07/2023 12:46

I'm not wild about surname names, and certainly not for girls. So not Faraday, especially not as the scientist is so famous that the name is in ordinary vocabulary (cages, etc)

Loveday and Farrah are both lovely
