Kiswahili · 20/06/2023 18:41

Expecting twins boys on 23June. My husband is obsessed with matching names. I am more flexible but to be honest I'd rather not.

My favourites are
Sebastian and Dorian
Florian and Tristian

My husband's
Jayden and Jaylen
Nick and Nico

Christ, your husband's suggestions. Nick and Nico? Who has sex with these people?

Nicholas and Sebastian. Done. The boys can wire me the money they have saved in therapy bills.

I put the best

On his list he had
Martin and Luther
Zeus and Poseidon
Cassius and Clay
Jupiter and Saturn

No. I am not joking.

He is defo taking the piss.
Martin and Luther - will King feature somewhere
Cassius Clay (or Mohammed and Ali)

You just need to straight up veto all his suggestions.

LadyJ2023 · 21/06/2023 02:55

Erm sorry but I think they are all awful names

user1492757084 · 21/06/2023 06:27

Too matchy means less autonomy for the boys.
They need their own identity.

Sebastian and Nicholas are very handsome together.
They have lovely meanings and sound good.

Sebastian David and Nicholas Lennon
Both second names have the same meaning.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 21/06/2023 07:39

Really love Sebastian and Nicholas. (Seb and Nico)

Sebastian and Benjamin is also good.

Twazique · 21/06/2023 10:15

Alex and Nick (Alexander and Nicholas) also sound nice.

SheSellSeaShells · 21/06/2023 10:57

As a twin ...... pls pls don't give them matchy names. It's hard enough trying to be individual.

Jemimapinotduck · 21/06/2023 13:11

I think Sebastian and Nicolas ( seb & Nico) are a great compromise. Good luck with everything 🤞🏼

Yay and No doesn’t work, it needs to be Yay and Nay.

Thanks. It's life changing.

I don't really see what's so wrong about saying "the twins".

Where is the baby?
Where are the girls?
Where are the twins?

I am in the hospital and still don't know their names.

It worked for Pinky and Perky...

Correct anyone who refers to them as 'The Twins'.... The Boys... they are two brothers not one unit.
Get their hair cut differently as far as possible.. the crown hair may grow differently anyway.

What if they both like the same things? Then should I prevent them from it?

E.g. both want an afro and play football.

As a mum of twin boys, please don't go for matchy names. They are individuals, not a set of bookends.

Jemimapinotduck · 21/06/2023 17:01

I'm not a twin mum so it may be different but I have 2 girls only 13 months apart and they're always referred to as the girls if talking about both of them, it's much quicker than saying their names! It's never bothered them either

You've had a lot of advice directly from twin mums and twins themselves. You might not understand it now, but within a few months of having them, you'll get it. Please listen to what we are saying.

BTMadmummy · 21/06/2023 17:07

Bertie & Toby
Charlie & Oliver

salamithumbs · 21/06/2023 17:09

I think definitely go Edward and Nick, Sebastian and Nick or Tristan and Nick.
As regards your DH wanting unique matching names like Jupiter and Saturn because 'how many of those do you meet', there's a reason you don't meet people with those names, it's because they sound ridiculous so no-one chooses them. I know siblings called River and Rain and when people hear the names the only response is 'are you joking?' I also know twins called Aileen and Aideen...nobody seems to think it's cool or quirky, just silly and very confusing.
I agree with pps that the twins should have their own individuality as much as possible rather than being some sort of Jedward duo. Whatever you do, do not agree to any of your husband's ideas straight after the birth as you'll be all hormonal and not thinking straight!! Hold off on names if needs be and good luck with everything x

No.
Treat them as two individuals not two halves of a set.

Thalia2008 · 23/06/2023 11:28

Sebastian and Tristan?

PurpleAirGuitar · 25/06/2023 17:22

My personal rules for twins (disclaimer: I haven't got twins)

  1. definitely not the same first initial (but I would try to avoid that for non-twins too)
  2. not rhyming
  3. not closely or distantly related versions of the same name
  4. possibly some sort of unifying theme, e.g. both biblical or both Gaelic, but not absolutely necessarily
  5. both about the same length (I wouldn't actually count letters or syllables, but I wouldn't have a Maximilian and a Jack)
  6. I would probably want to shorten either both names or neither of them. So I wouldn't have Matthew and Thomas, but always call Thomas Tom and never call Matthew Matt. I'd make sure I liked the short forms of both.

Of all the names on both lists, I only really like Tristan (spelt that way) and Nico. They would actually make quite cool twin names in my opinion. You could always have more matchy middle names if it's important to DH.

DuchessOfSausage · 25/06/2023 18:36

@PurpleAirGuitar , my rules are almost the same, but with the names ideally not of more than 2 syllables. I'd also call DT2 a name that alphabetically comes before DT1's.

Tom & Matt is fine but Sebastian and Dominic too long.
Maximilian and Jack - just call them Max & Jack

Kiswahili · 26/06/2023 19:16

Babies are Ted and Nick

So obviously Edward and Nicholas

QueenOfThorns · 26/06/2023 19:26

Congratulations, @Kiswahili! I hope that you, Ted and Nick are all doing well. Those are really good names Flowers

DuchessOfSausage · 26/06/2023 19:43

Congratulations!Flowers BearBear Flowers

Holly03 · 26/06/2023 19:45

Mine would be matching same initial but it’s personal preference. Some parents name all their children with the same lettered first names but I couldn’t do that.
