Expecting twins boys on 23June. My husband is obsessed with matching names. I am more flexible but to be honest I'd rather not.

My favourites are
Sebastian and Dorian
Florian and Tristian

My husband's
Jayden and Jaylen
Nick and Nico

I read an article somewhere about this recently. How difficult it is for twins with matching names in schools when no one can tell them apart and it's a nightmare for teachers.

Oh thanks. I haven't thought about it. Even for myself it might be hard.

I think your husband is winding you up!

kagerou · 20/06/2023 18:53

Kiswahili · 20/06/2023 18:44

Why would it be a windup????

Because surely no one would ever think Jayden and Jaylen are a good idea 😂

Btw I don't actually think its a wind up but your husbands matching name ideas are appalling

My dad was a primary school teacher and used to teach a set of twin girls called Casie (said like kaycee) and Cassie. The teachers all hated it and felt very sorry for the kids

Temm · 20/06/2023 18:53

I'm a teacher with identical twins in my class that have very similar names..as in just one letter difference. Imagine Seth and Beth (tho both are boys!) Everyone addresses them by saying 'Beth, Seth, Beth, whoever...' Not ideal for anyone.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 20/06/2023 18:54

As a twin, please don't. Let them have their own identities, matching names are so awful.

Notellinganyone · 20/06/2023 18:54

Definitely not matching. Sebastian is fine. I taught a Dorian who was called Dory and I like it and the literary connotations. How about Corin?

Wishimaywishimight · 20/06/2023 18:54

Dorian will be called Doreen - you cannot inflict that on your child. Or Florian for that matter.

Matching is just awful. Your husband may as well announce he can’t be arsed seeing them as individuals.

I think he's just excited to have 2 little boys that look the same.

The only names we agree on is Sebastian and Martin.

Motherofalittledragon · 20/06/2023 18:55

Nope!

LittleBearPad · 20/06/2023 18:56

Martin? Really?

Soubriquet · 20/06/2023 18:58

Martin is…a little old fashioned.

Sebastian is a good name.

Sebastian and Jonathon?

afain · 20/06/2023 18:58

I'm a twin. Do not give them matching names!

I put the best

On his list he had
Martin and Luther
Zeus and Poseidon
Cassius and Clay
Jupiter and Saturn

No. I am not joking.

I taught non identical twins called something like Ellie May and Ella May. I just thought it completely lacked imagination.

give them their own identities.

gooseduckchicken · 20/06/2023 18:58

Let your children have their own identity; they won't thank you for matching names.

Personally of your name choices, I only like Sebastian.

Jayden and Jaylen - DH must be having a laugh; and Nick and Nico are the same name!

Pamalot · 20/06/2023 18:59

How about Edward and Thomas. Two classic names and they can be Tom and Ted. They wont have the same initials

pricklythistles · 20/06/2023 18:59

Dear god no. I can't believe you haven't thought about the cons of matching names and how ridiculous it is.

Your husbands suggestions are atrocious.

Sebastian and Tristan are the nicest in your list. Stick with names - like these - that complement one another but not rhyming or same initial etc.

Bonbon21 · 20/06/2023 18:59

They may well look very alike, but they will still be separate individuals... and as they get older they will certainly not always be together.. or appreciate the cute 'Bill and Ben' name scenario.
And for gods sake ...please do not make them wear the same clothes... that is just sick...

Soubriquet · 20/06/2023 18:59

Zeus and Poseidon?! He does realise he’s naming children that will eventually grow up to be adults and not dogs right?

If he thinks they are are ok names, he needs to call himself one for a week and introduce himself everywhere as one. I bet he won’t

Kiswahili · 20/06/2023 19:00

LittleBearPad · 20/06/2023 18:56

Martin? Really?

Ok then but you could state why

He's not having two little boys that look the same. He's having new people.
They're going to be adults one day. Respect their individuality and don't treat them like hamsters.

gooseduckchicken · 20/06/2023 19:00

Martin and Luther
Zeus and Poseidon
Cassius and Clay
Jupiter and Saturn

He can't be serious, he just can't be.

pricklythistles · 20/06/2023 19:00

I just saw your update and other name suggestions from your husband.

I hope he's pulling your leg. Otherwise LTB.

Sebastian and Alexander.

Sebastian and Nicholas - Seb and Nico as possible nicknames - so you each get a name from your list, @Kiswahili.

Sebastian and Luke/Luca.

Sebastian and Christopher - possible nicknames Seb and Kit (a shortening for Christopher that goes back to medieval times).
