Please no chav.

No Blaze,Courtney-May, Minky-Rae etc.

My daughter already does not suit her name it is far to gentle for her even dh agrees (I am amazed by this) but I am flummoxed as to what we could call her instead as we had Nell, Annie, Constance and Dolly on our lists and neither of them fit either.

Any suggestions would be very welcomed, I really want to get the ball rolling sooner rather than later I think we have 5 weeks before we can't change it officially.

Ivy is another strong name IMO

VanillaPumpkin · 19/02/2008 12:41

VS - Go for Lexie instead!!
I love Martha as a name, but I saw that as gentle.....

Cataline · 19/02/2008 12:45

And there's always psycho Roxie Hart in Shameless to think about!!

Hadn't realised we were talking about an 11 month old!! Good on you for being brave enough to name change if you're really not happy!
If you're going to go down the subtle change route then Libby is not a bad idea. You could call her Elizabeth then she could be Libbie and later there's Billie, Beth,Betty, Liz, Lizzie, Ellie...

VictorianSqualor · 19/02/2008 12:45

Vanilla, we are thinking Alexandra now, so Lexie will definitely be an option.

Cataline · 19/02/2008 12:46

Was Frasier's scary ex-wife called Lillith?

Cataline · 19/02/2008 12:47

Oh, I love Lexie! Alexandra is a great name!

Sycamoretree · 19/02/2008 12:48

Xenia, heh heh heh!

WendyWeber · 19/02/2008 12:49

My mother changed my name when I was 18 months (because there were some common new neighbours and their daughter had the same name )

The first syllable of each sounded similar, and I don't think it affected me.

belgo · 19/02/2008 12:50

that's interesting, what was your original name ww?

WendyWeber · 19/02/2008 12:56

Pamela. (Neighbour's daughter was known as paaAAAaam )

belgo · 19/02/2008 13:03

at your parents' reason for the change

Fillyjonk · 19/02/2008 13:06

but this is lilith

how on earth could that not be feisty?

WendyWeber · 19/02/2008 13:07

My mother was a terrible snob

WendyWeber · 19/02/2008 13:08

The White Witch in Narnia was called Lilith too, Filly - def feisty but perhaps not in a good way!

Fillyjonk · 19/02/2008 13:12

was she really?

lilith is a proper feminist name imo

it gets a lot of bad christian rap. lilith was the first wife who was rejected (and according to some, "left out" (though of course its more complex) of the bible because she would not bow to adam's will.

WendyWeber · 19/02/2008 13:12

Oh no she wasn't, she was descended from Lilith (possibly)

justnally · 19/02/2008 13:12

Paprika!

WendyWeber · 19/02/2008 13:13
helsy · 19/02/2008 13:14

Rosie?
Harriet?
Kate?

allgonebellyup · 19/02/2008 13:19

Isis

Now thats dramatic.

Fillyjonk · 19/02/2008 13:20

no, I agree its not a pretty pretty name

Its the name of a goddess who represented things that annoyed old religious men

eg

"She said, 'I will not lie below,' and he said, 'I will not lie beneath you, but only on top. For you are fit only to be in the bottom position, while I am to be the superior one.' Lilith responded, 'We are equal to each other inasmuch as we were both created from the earth.' But they would not listen to one another. When Lilith saw this, she pronounced the Ineffable Name and flew away into the air."

lizziemun · 19/02/2008 13:22

Cataline

Sorry, don't like Lilith.

DD answers to everything we actually call her bobs/bops for some strange reason the whole family does. She looks whenever she hears anything.

Thre are some super suggestions to think about making it much harder easier to decide.

I am liking Xanthe but maybe it's too frilly.

Sigh.
