Please no chav.

No Blaze,Courtney-May, Minky-Rae etc.

My daughter already does not suit her name it is far to gentle for her even dh agrees (I am amazed by this) but I am flummoxed as to what we could call her instead as we had Nell, Annie, Constance and Dolly on our lists and neither of them fit either.

Any suggestions would be very welcomed, I really want to get the ball rolling sooner rather than later I think we have 5 weeks before we can't change it officially.

Tabitha shortened to Tibby is lovely...

Tibby Dunbar

[print]
(Robert Burns)
Oh, Wilt thou go wi' me sweet Tibby Dunbar
Oh, Wilt thou go wi' me sweet Tibby Dunbar
Wilt thou ride on a horse or be drawn in a cart
Or walk by my side sweet Tibby Dunbar

I care na thy daddie, his land or his money
I care na thy kin, sae high and sae lordly
But say that thou'lt hae me for better or waur
And come in your coatie sweet Tibby Dunbar

I offer you ma'y thing in silver or land
What man could determine the price of your hand
What gem you can send me'd be richer by far
Oh, Wilt thou go wi' me sweet Tibby Dunbar

Oh, wilt thou be known as a poor beggar's lady
And sleep in the heather rolled up in my plaidie
The sky for a roof and your candle a star
My love for a fire sweet Tibby Dunbar

Oh, Wilt thou go wi' me sweet Tibby Dunbar
Oh, Wilt thou go wi' me sweet Tibby Dunbar
Wilt thou ride on a horse or be drawn in a cart
Or walk by my side sweet Tibby Dunbar

I had a cat called Tibby. She used to lie in front of the fire and lick her own arse, which is a good trick, but rather put me off the name!

berolina · 19/02/2008 10:22

Think Rosa is actually pretty feisty (Rosa Parks, Rosa Luxemburg)

piratecat · 19/02/2008 10:23

Iris is a great name!!

Cataline · 19/02/2008 10:23

Isabella? Izzie or Bella.
I had a rabbit called Bella and she was very fiery! Actually, she used to bite... we called her Bella the Bitch

piratecat · 19/02/2008 10:24

belgo · 19/02/2008 10:24

Hazel means commander? I never knew that!

Go for Hazel, it's a great name

piratecat · 19/02/2008 10:31

2nd the name Hazel !!!

piratecat · 19/02/2008 10:32

i thought it just meant 'nut'

ggglmpp · 19/02/2008 10:33

i have a very strong willed and determined Lily. A little flower with stamens of pure steel............

justnotsure · 19/02/2008 10:34

Berolina Rosa was going to be her middle name- confused post by me-earlier. I thought that it would be nice the two flower names together but dh thought no, might have been easier to have another name to fall back on.

Will suggest to him tonight:

Constance But Nancy shortened
Iris (which is growing on me)
Georgie
Ethel - he will laugh.
Violet- ditto
Andrea/Andi sounds lovely.

Ds like Georgie.

Has anyone suggested Mathilda or Martha? Can use Mattie as a derivative.
Having thought about it, I was the fieriest child imaginable! I had long wild red auburn hair, an incredible imagination and even more incredible temper and was a bit of a daredevil.
...and my name is very traditional

justnotsure · 19/02/2008 10:35

Hazel is dh's crazy ex.

Too true.

berolina · 19/02/2008 10:36

Oh do give her a middle name, I am a great advocate of middle names. I never use mine and don't particularly like it but like having one. dh doesn't have one and his first name only has four letters - makes me a little sad somehow that he has a name of such brevity

WendyWeber · 19/02/2008 10:38

My feisty fiery daughter is Frances

pendulum · 19/02/2008 10:40

I have an Iris. DH's suggestion but I love love love it. Flowery but strong at the same time

peacelily · 19/02/2008 10:42

My dd is called Maia, meaning nurse or goddess of spring (greek origin) she's a minx very fiery and wilful!

I've just come accross Maialen a hebrew name meaning from the tower.

Another name we liked was the greek version of Violet, Ianthe which is lovely.
