Can we really name our baby girl this?

Hi all,

I am currently 8 and a half months pregnant, myself and DP have been going back and forth on names for a while until we agreed on this around 2 months ago.

The name we would like to use for our girl is Halo.

Our baby's surname will be Raye

Is it too out there? We both love the name but would love to know what others think.

I know an Anna-Rae (first name) I think that's quite lovely, so Anna Halo Raye could be quite nice.

I think its a fab name!

It sounds cute but too cute.

What about Juno Raye
Margot Raye

Or with the ay vowel, Michaela Raye, Leila Raye,

I went for v classic names for my two but I actually kind of like it.

An alternative might be Hero, which sounds similar but is less likely to be misheard as hello.

I've seen some real shockers of names on here but I don't think yours qualifies. Maybe give her a more workaday middle name in case she wants to go that way?

If you must (and I wouldn't) could you give her a name starting with H and then use Halo as a nickname?

Personally I find with names like this the person saddled with it can be set up to fail. The meaning of a halo, would she feel like she was constantly letting the name down so goes the other way to prove its not her and she wants her own identity. It's one reason why I refuse to give my children anyone in our families name as a first name. I don't mind as a middle name as they have a first to make their own. No having to live upto another person or meaning. It sounds alright to me but kids will turn it into hello ray and constantly tease her about where is her halo. For all those reasons I wouldn't use it but your baby your choice x

When I think of Halo Raye, I think of Hello Ray, as in Ray Charles..

Please don’t inflict this awful name on your child.

I don’t like made up names. I actually think this one is ok. Because it’s short and a recognisable word that people can spell it comes across as strong rather than off the wall.
Halo is beautiful - I would go with it if you love it.

this was my initial thought too.

I don't like it myself and wouldn't use it, but that said I think the argument that she'll have to spell it and explain it forever is a bit of a dead one. So many kids have weird names these days so she'll just be another. Plus even "normal" names have to be spelled out lots.

It also gives me "Luna" vibes. I bet 10 years ago you'd get weird looks calling your baby Luna and now every bloody 3rd kid is called Luna. (I think it's a horrible name for what it's worth)

If you like it just use it.

I’ve just got the song Halo by Beyoncé constantly going round my head since I read the OP.

I mean it’s out there as a name, if she ends up being a megastar it’ll be fine, I can imagine Halo Raye being up there with Lady Gaga, Madonna and Whitney. Ladies and Gentlemen it’s Halo Raye!!!

Haven't read the full thread but just incase no one has said it Molly-Mae and Tommy Fury are about to have a baby any day and it's rumoured they're calling her Halo.
I love unusual names personally but Halo feels cheap and tacky to me, but it's your baby so you have to pick something you love and it's not got any offensive connotations so it could be worse I suppose

I've tried it in a variety of accents and the double "ay" sound just doesn't work. Hearing it screeched across a room/playground is going to be grating. And it really is asking for her to be an absolute tearaway! Aurora is similar in meaning but an actual name.

I grew up with a highly uncommon surname plus an unusual first name (from Latin but unusual) which also didn't run together well. I changed my surname on marriage at least partly to get away from the hassle of repeating both names AND spelling both names. FWIW my children have traditional but less common names - think in a similar vein to Raphael and Persephone - and I do like unusual names, just not this one.

What about Voodoo Raye or even Ex Raye

another one here saying go for Hailey and call her Halo for a nickname if you must.
